This is too cool! The page explains it all and includes a video that blew me away, plus you can download and print the illusion for yourself. Unbelievably cool!

If anyone actually prints that dragon and tries it out, let me know how it goes. :yes They have tons more illusions here:

These are astounding:

For example this one just BLOWS me away:

When you really consider it from both a technical and conceptual perspective, that particular sculpture is as artistic as anything I've ever seen. Profoundly gifted craftsman and abstract thinker behind those dualart sculptures...
Well I did the dragon (couldn't resist) and it does look pretty neat, although nothing like the one in the movie.
I think you have to make a few before you can get it to look just right, and know how "hard" to make your folds. Plus my cutting and taping skills arn't the best anymore.
Either way, some really cool stuff.

I made one, and it is REALLY neat! very similar to what is in the movie. Any poor cutting and tape incidents on my part disappeared into the blur of my "no glasses" world.
It was super cool!
I have to agree with Des on this one. Very very cool indeed, it reminded me of that magic eye thing that was soo huge when I was a youngin

I must be a freak...I've never been able to see a magic eye picture, and try tho' I might, I couldn't see the dragon head moving either!

That's odd Sandy. I would have assumed once it got taped to video that anyone could see it, i.e. the illusion being on tape requires no eye processing beyond a normal TV show. Very odd. Stereoscopically challenged. You better hope you never get charged by 2 moose at the same time coming from varying distances on parallel paths at varying speeds from either side on a flat plane. Otherwise, pffffft... Anyhow you aren't missing much on the Magic page things, they're usually pretty basic.
There is software which allows you to create magic page images form photos, etc. It works OK on some stuff, especially high contrast pics with one clear object. But for the most part it ends up as indistiguishable dot soup.
Desmond, you rule. I'm removing your name form my list of "people who don't rule" even as we speak. Adam, your testimony is heartwarming.

I'm neither confirming nor denying that rumor. I will only comment on the tragic nature of how such rumors get started in the first place. It's tragic frankly...
Anyhow, why so binary youthman? Didn't it occur to you I may be maintaining an entire raster of lists, i.e.:
1. People who *may* rule.
2. People who used to rule but took the week off due to lumbago, and will hopefully rule again starting next Monday if they feel up to it.
3. People who are not prone to assessment.
4. People who have children that rule and ended up simply piggybacking on that.
5. People who don't rule but dress like they do. And vice versa.
6. People who only rule because you like their sister.
7. People who rule, but have a cousin who doesn't rule sleeping on their sofa.
8. People who own rulers.
Etc. Eh wot? :yes

No, no...I could see the video of the dragon head moving, just not the actual optical illusion when Des made it.

I made one too... I think it's defective (or I am). My guess is the lighting in my room is quite right. Too much shadow.
The video was totally cool though

Ahhhh. I see. That makes more sense. Boy that little dragon is sure making the rounds, that makes about 12 people I know who have tried it so far! :)
6. People who only rule because you like their sister.
that is pure comedy my friend.... still laughing

I agree I have the same problem in my place, it seems as though you need more ambient light then overhead light.
