Hi, Just a question.
I made a interactive book with AMS and flash, but now I would like to create an icon for the EXE file not for the runing time, I mean for the "autorun.exe" file.
May a good book icon an open one.
well I know this is posible, but it is legal?

Thx for the advice

Hi Josué,

If I understand your post correctly; you want to use your own icon instead of the AMS icon for your EXE, right?

This is from the AMS help file;
__________________________________________________ _______________

Change the Application Icon
To change the icon that your application uses:

Choose Project > Window Settings from the menu.

Select Custom Icon.

Note: Any custom icon that you choose to use must be in Windows standard .ICO format.

__________________________________________________ _______________

I hope this is what you wanted to know. If not, please post again.

nope you understand wrong. I want to change the external exe icon. not the app icon.

The one you double click to star the app.
I know how to do it , just asking if it's legal and it is. so thx

We don't have a problem with you changing the icon on your published projects, so long as you do not alter any of the copyright information found in the version resource.

Sorry, my mistake. I understand now.

I'd like to know how to change that icon. Can you describe how, please?

Thanks

Ted,

Could this be an option added into AMS5 pro that would allow you to replace the golden AMS CD with the specified Icon in the project. That would be a great feature to have. A checkbox that would allow us to replace the exe's icon.

Yea, good point Tig.

It will be a very nice option to replace the standard icon.

What's your comment on that Ted?

I agree with Tigg and sside. AMS is sold as a product for users to (this quote is from the AMS products page);

"...create your own custom autorun CD/DVD menus, interactive presentations, and Windows software applications."

which means ams users are creating their own products, presumably for resale. Wouldn't it make sense for icons to represent ams users products rather than those of AMS?

I hope Josué (or someone else) will tell us how to change the icon.

Once upon a time i did experiment on that. I opened the exe with visual basic (visual studio) and i had access to the exe icon..... etc...etc

..........just a thought..........

MichaelD,

It says that on the product page but the license grants you the non-exclusive rights to distribute the runtime applications created by the Software on a royalty-free basis.

You are actually using IR's runtime, hence the comments from Ted above about not changing the copyright information.

But I agree it would be nice to have an option to change the icon within the app.

Ted, When you mention chaning the icon this is in reference to the icon on the exe, right? From previouis posts in the forum, I thought this could only be done by using a resourse or hex editor to make those changes. Is this now allowed as long as the copyright information does not change?

Changing the icon on published projects (the .exe icon) is fine, but we don't officially support it or provide instructions on how to do it or even if it can be done using a resource editor etc. In fact, due to the dynamic compression of the runtime etc., it may not even be possible without corrupting the runtime.

We looked in to ways to make it possible in AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0 as a built-in feature, but ran into a variety of technical problems that made it unfeasible to support as a feature. So, if you can do it manually, then by all means go ahead and try. HOWEVER, WE DO NOT ALLOW CHANGING OR MODIFYING THE COPYRIGHT NOTICES IN THE RUNTIME. THE RUNTIME IS PROPERTY OF INDIGO ROSE CORPORATION AND IS LICENSED RATHER THAN SOLD, JUST LIKE 99% OF SOFTWARE EVER WRITTEN.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reminder Tigg.

I speak for myself, but I assume every person who posted to this thread wants only to change the icon and has no wish to interfere in any way with IR's copyright info.

Thanks for the hint sside. However, I don't have VB Studio - and can't program anyway. Isn't there an easier way?

I know that it is possible to change the (.exe) icon. I don't know which program exactly (by name) can do the job except VB that i have tried (exe did not get corrupted after that). I'm sure that are plenty of programs that can do the same (what VB does). I consider it as a good move from IR to give as the liberty to change the exe icon so it's only matter of time until other forum members will come forward with ideas and solutions.
Where is a will there is a way.
I also think it's only matter of time until IR will come with solutions regarding customization of the icon.
If i will come with a solution i'll let you know.

I tried that app. (to change out the Icon)... and the Replace button still stayed dimmed after I picked a .ico file (left box) and then a .exe (right box).

Am I missing a step? (I even tried double click on the graphic images in vein).

That little prog it's wonderful. Although its miracles are limited it's still nice utility to have.

You are really missing some steps;
The icon that you use has to be multilayer that's why you have no results. You need for that Axialis IconWorkshop or something like that. I just did some tests and i'm happy with the results. Don't forget to match the icon size (48 true color x 48 true color).
I just attached a icon i just did with Axialis IconWorkshop 5.0. Give it a try

Something else to add
if you don't save the work (you cancel it or some how) anything (exe) you will open will still show the icon of the last unfinished work. To avoid this you must delete some (temporary) files in the temporary folder (C:\DOCUME~1\Intrigued\LOCALS~1\Temp). The filenames are ChangeIconApp.bk, ChangeIconApp.work

This is what i've noticed so far. For the rest everything works fine.

Ok... I will try out your suggestions. I am about to wrap up another project and I really wanted to have an icon that represents the project theme.

Oh, I have Iconcool Editor and I use that for my custom created Icons. The icon I did use was created by the other person.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Sincerely,

Another thing i just noticed, single layer will work as long as size and color of the custom icon will match with the size and color of the exe icon. AMS exe icons have 6 layers, if you don't change all 6, although the main icon is changed if you browse for that exe you still see the old icon. The best is to change all 6 layers. That's why multilayer icon is the choice. After all the titlebar icon is not changed. But that can be changed in the project->window settings.

Yes, this is a great app, I've been using since a while.

Now the real important thing to remember.

there are 3 icon layers on the general app exe. (non the self extractor one) Make sure you have a icon with the exact size and color-deep to make the changes

1.- Resource [128]
(This resource is for the main exe file. The one displayed on the root)
a Icon with 6 layers
16x16 256 colors
16x16 true color
32x32 256 colors
32x32 true color
48x48 256 colors
48x48 true color

2.- Resource [129]
(This resource is for the internal exe file. The one displayed on the top left window or in the systemtry)
a Icon with 6 layers
16x16 256 colors
16x16 true color
32x32 256 colors
32x32 true color
48x48 256 colors
48x48 true color

3.- Resource [129]
(Don't really know what this does)
a Icon with 6 layers
16x16 256 colors
16x16 true color
32x32 256 colors
32x32 true color
48x48 256 colors
48x48 true color

Extra TIP. If you want to reconfigure the default exe icon, if you chage the icon on the runtime engine (_your ams dir\data\win32rt.dat) for your own. And also to the self esecutables doing the same on sfe.dat located on data folder too.

Josué you're right

I was talking about the compressed exe (zip like). Only i get here
Icon [128]
Icon [129]
Icon [4508]

After i changed all layers on Icon [128] in the exe (not compressed exe) all was set. Nice prog Josué.

Intrigued ( or anyone ) - did you ever solve this. I've been trying it out and I get the greyed out options. I have managed it with MicroAngelo but it's clunky. This looks as if it should do the job with one click.

I have not made anytime available to this problem. I hope that sooner than later I.R. has an upgrade that will take care of this situation.

Hopefully someone else here will chime in with a working solution.

1-Browse in the right side of the app for the ams exe
2-Browse in the left side of the app for the icon
3-Select the proper size in the both sides and hit Replace

Repeat step 3 for all icon sizes. In the end you hit Save

Watch attachments

Note that ams icons are 6 layer icons. You need a 6 layer icon to replace them all that means you must repeat step 3, 6 times. look the previous post in this thread and you will find a six layer icon i posted...Who knows may be in the next release ir will include detailed instructions in the help files for that problem :D

It's really a nice little program to change the Icon's

I works like a dream for me. I use Axialis Iconworkshop to create the 6 layer Icon and then I just run the Icon changer and *puf* my AMS apps got a new custom Icon.
