Hi all,

Did any of you know that Windows Media Player will play a quasi-slideshow? Not real elegant, but it can be done. And it can also play swf (Flash) files. Didn't know that either until today.

Here's a sample project utilizing the WMP plugin (must have - it's free!). The 'wpl' file is a basic playlist and the 'asx' file is a more advanced playlist (more customization). Anyway, if anyone knows more tricks to this, I'd be glad to hear them. I'm guessing that you must have at least WMP 9 on your system to preview this. If not, let me know the lowest version that will play it. It won't play Flash files local for some reason (security issues), but the Internet is fair game. Just a few more options for AMS'ers.

What made me mess with this is, my daughter sent me a MSN slideshow that obviously uses WMP embed and it's pretty slick. Has anyone seen this? Anyway, if we could emulate that, it would make for a nice feature to expand AMS even more. But, this is a start. All comments welcome....

Link/File removed due to lack of interest.

Just a thought rhosk... some folks may not check the AMS's forum as often as we do. Others may be just little to busy at the moment...

I thought it was interesting... :yes I just did not have the time to check out.

Sincerely,

Corey

Sounds interesting to me actually it's just that I had a crazy, crazy, crazy two weeks putting together our new Setup Factory Flash. I've been barely able to answer any posts, but I always try to get around to your posts at some point Ron because I know they always contain something of interest. :) My 2 cents (CAN) anyhow...

Nah, the thing is, the file is 1MB and many were d/l'ing, but no feedback (30 or so at the time). I couldn't post it here because of size and I don't need the wasted bandwidth (this is why I wish we could edit our own posts, I would've just deleted it). I try to put these together to get constructive feedback. Even if it's, "hey, you could do it this way too" type thing. The Flash part blew me away as I never knew WMP could handle that. If this was the case say, 2 years ago, you wouldn't of ever had to rely on a Flash Player dependency (not so much now). Heck, I didn't even know you could load images until recently. Not really documented much out there. Anyway, the lack of interest I was implying was not the actual file, but no feedback. In the DEV section especially, I think we could learn tons from each other's experiences. Maybe secrecy is power, don't know. I can see the user's downloading the file and I know who some are, but they either tuck it away for later use, or just shrug it off and say - big deal. I'd like to know either way.

Thanks guys.

I find some things in life... well... sometimes you get good feedback... and other times you don't (I.R. knows this from one of their other domains they set up and then dismantled this year).

Crazy thing is that maybe the next thing that you share will be a four page thread!

I like reading, checking out your ideas... everyone's here! Brett's thread on a free utility out there was one I found useful and commented on. Corey... finds some off the wall cool stuff. Loren find information to save my backside. TJ TIGG ... just plain has a cool logo ( ;) )... while Worm.. well.. enough said about Worm (mad skills comes to mind though) :p

So, keep the ideas flowing... I'm having fun learning and the more, new posts and ideas shared the better!

Sincerely,
