Hello,
We are using TrueUpdate right now in a series of our products. We've noticed that it's been quite some time since your last minor or major update of this technology. Given the robust set of feature suggestions offered by users (including ourselves), we're concerned that the pace of updates to TrueUpdate is rather slow. Is this basically "it" for TrueUpdate? Should we expect more feature enhancements? What timeframe are you looking at? The lack of recent updates has caused us to become concerned about whether we should continue to use TrueUpdate in our applications, or begin searching for an alternative.

Please advise.
Thank you.
Mark

Mark,

We do have a new minor update coming out in the next week or two. We've been preoccupied with putting out new versions of AutoPlay Media Studio and Setup Factory, but rest assured that we fully intend to continue development of TrueUpdate. While I can't give you any firm dates at this point, I can tell you that TrueUpdate 2.0 is already well under way and will incorporate the same incredibly flexible and powerful scripting language and action library that we've built into AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0 and Setup Factory 7.0, as well as the same screen/dialog manager found in Setup Factory 7.0... At this point there is no other solution available that will be able to match TrueUpdate 2.0's combination of power, ease of use and complete configurability. We'll be sure to keep our customers informed as development progresses.

Will TrueUpdate v2 include any options for charging for updates?

Most companies provide fixes/patches for free. But when a major version change is available, will there be any sort of ecommerce interface to pay for an upgrade? This would be bery helpful.

Another nice feature would be to detect whether a user is a support subscriber before downloading an update, and giving them an option to subscribe if they are not.

Finally, will it support downloading an update/patch to a CD to take it to a non-networked station?

I doubt that we will actually set up a system for paid updates. There are just too many variables to account for.

But with the addition of all the amazing action from SUF 7.0 and the ability to use our plugins you will be able to set up a secure ordering system. Some key features that are set to be added that apply to security:

HTTPS actions (Secure HTTP!!)
FTP plugin actions
Crypto Plugin actions for data encryption

to name just a few. This will give you the tools needed to set up a state of the art updating system. You as the developer would have to set up the server side to accept the package from True Update.

That is all I can say at the moment.

Keep your eyes firmly here on this forum! We'll be announcing some really exciting plans for TrueUpdate 2.0 in the next few weeks. And of course, as with any Indigo Rose product, you can be sure that if you own a previous version you'll be eligible for excellent upgrade pricing or if you purchase withing 60 days of a new release, you'll get it free.
