I am having trouble getting SF6 to create a Start Menu shortcut to a website under Windows NT 4.0 as the target machine using the 'Action Properties: Create Shortcut' action. If I change the target file from a URL to something else (like c:\winnt\notepad.exe) it will work fine.

Is creating Start Menu shortcuts to URLs possible under Windows NT 4.0?

I just set the Target File to the URL and it seems to work. It is not creating an Internet Shortcut which I would like it to do, but I'm not sure if that is possible with SF. If you find out more, then please post it here so the rest of us will know as well.

Thanks!

Try this:

- Create the shortcut to the Website in a folder on your system (i.e "C:\Temp") by right clicking in the folder and select New > Shortcut
- Drag and drop the shortcut from your folder on your system onto Setup Factory's files window. You should see "<<shortcut name>>.url" in your project
- Double click that file and install it to "%SCFolderPath%" (without quotes)

That should install the .url file to the start menu.

imanta,

I have been doing this fine until now when I need it to work under Windows NT and it did not. It does work fine under Win2K/XP.

I would like to avoid having to add a URL to my list of files to install because I can do it with a 'create shortcut' command just fine under the new operating systems. It is not a big deal really if I exclude the shortcut on users who use Windows NT because frankly we don't have many users left who do. It is just a shortcut to our customer support forum.

Thanks for the suggestions. :)
