:D
Corey just likes to mix it up a little.

I find it interesting that you can add to peoples reputations. Now I just need to find a way to view what people have said about you in their posts about your reputation. That could make for some interesting reading.

I can see it now

Add to Worms Reputation dll/plugin posting hero

I like the new layout as well, but what is this "reputation" thing?

Reputations have been de-activated because it serves only as a means to ostracize people. As far as I'm concerned there is no room for any type of competitive activity or user rankings in our forum. I wouldn't judge you in the real world upon your appearance, and I feel that this is similar to that, i.e. someone who has never met a user before or even read one of their posts may judge them unworthy based up a low ranking, which may or may not have been put there by an anonymous source with no justification whatsoever.

Everyone gets a fair shake here. As far as we're concerned you're all marvellous and "marvellous" is not something that comes in shades of grey. :)

On the other end of things, as you guys know the really great users in here like Worm, Tigger, Yosik, Stefan_M, Eric, AGRO, kp, hosk, JIMS, and all the others, etc. (don't be sore if I forgot you, I'm in a rush, I know there's lots more of you) aren't seeking numerical recognition of their efforts anyhow. We don't want to foster an atmosphere where people are pursuing numerical reputations, we prefer to keep it just as it has always been, just good people helping out because they're good people. No other reason.

As the elites know, we mail out free CDs and stuff when we can. We don't advertise those free rewards in here because a) they're no big deal anyhow and b) because that's not what it's all about. But it happens, just last month we mailed out 7-8 free copies of the new Speedy Training CD (CD 2) to some kind folks. We keep them in our minds, and unlike most corporations, it means something to us *personally* when we read such great support post from all these incredibly cool individuals.

So I feel like we already have a superb existing arrangement vis-a-vis recognizing who's who in here. I think anyone who's been here for more than a week has benefited from Worm, Tigger, et al and they know, these people are great. There's no need to diminish those who don't help or those who try to help but are less effective than these elites due to their newness to the product.

I can't bear the thought that some new user may come in here and try to help a fellow newbie, purely out of kindness, and then get their reputation panned because their answer wasn't 100% accurate, and I can guarantee you that will happen with this system. Check out some VB3 forums who leave it activated in a few months. There'll be no impetus for newbies to try and help, etc. Bottom line, I'm looking for more ways to bring us together as a group, not to seperate us as individuals. :)

Besides, the "bad" people will just rejoin with a new name anytime their reputations get panned, so it's completely useless at doing what it was intended to do anyhow. It will only serve to punish the honest people...

I hope that everyone understands my rationale, even those who disagree with it. I'm just doing my best to maintain a forum which is free from the usual bad things you see in forums, comfortable, kind, and inclusive to all. :)

P.S. 100% credit for the new forum update goes to none other than Ted, who was kind enough to install it despite the fact that it was an entirely unpleasurable and convoluted process. Fortunately though "Convolution" is Ted's middle name and he picked the task to pieces like a salmon dinner. Kudos Ted, thanks. Treat yourself to a copy of Perry Como's "So Smooth/We Get Letters", on me. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005B518/ref=m_art_li_15/103-1012073-7609400?v=glance&s=music

If you're not into Perry Como, I offer a bright red turtleneck sweater as an alternate reward, your choice. Please note that the sweater has one short arm.

WOW! Now that I've had a day to use this forum I'm *really* digging it, the alt text (showing the actual post text) on the thread subject in forum view is nothing short of genius. I could go on for hours, this is an incredible upgrade. Now *THIS* is what I call "a professional forum"! Still a few small anomalies but overall I'm extremely happy with this new version of VB. What a great thing!!! Totally superior to our old forum, big time...

I like the new features in the new forum. I like the preview text for the post. I feel like Superman being able to see into the post without having to open it.

One thing I noticed is that te forum does not support .apz files. Can this be added?

I especially like that the new upgrade seems to have fixed the cookie bug that didn't update after you read new messages in a forum. I can't tell you how many times during the last incarnation of the forums where I clicked a couple of times on forums that said I had yet to read new messages after I already had.

Whew. I'm sane again.

Well, not really. But I do feel better.

Done! Added am5, am4, and apz. Just let me know if ever you need any other(s) added. Superman, hehe... Yes it's very much like that, that's one of my favorite new features. It'll probably take me weeks to check out all the new stuff but so far I'm extremely pleased with almost everything I see.

The smileys kind of lack, I mean who's going to use this :p or this :o ? We'll have to address that at some point. The new golden thumb is simply terrible too, in fact all the new post icons are inferior to the old ones. I'm not sure I can live without about-to-sneeze smiley and flu-cough smiley. We'll see.

Another feature I like is the ability to edit your post and attach the file that I forgot to attach before I hit the Submit reply button

d'oh

As far as smilies, can you import the old Golden Thumb from the old board?

Corey

I'll scratch around later this week. Today is crazy busy. I imagine it should be a simple matter. That new thumb is positively anemic. No one's going to covet that orange blob. Considering though that the thumb is my main beef with the forum, we're in good shape. :)
