Hello everyone.
I am trying to use the progress meter to show the status of an application installation from within APMS 5. All I want is for the meter to show the progress of the installation. I have spent the better part of this morning searching the forum reading any and everything about the progress meter plugin including the help file. What I want to do is simple but yet a bit complicted for me because of my lack of skills and understaning of program language. I am trying but it is a slow process.
What I think is needed for me and many others out there is some instructions with all the plugins, that could hand hold me through the process one time. (Traning Video?) A simple cut and paste of the basics or example. Once I see it I can usualy grasp it. The help file online touched on alot of variables which confused me more that anything. I think what is needed is how to link the bar with the app and then how to program the bar to show the progress of the installation.
A post by Jimbo02112 on Feb 2004 was right on and Bretts reply had some excellent links.(I have searched them all) Problem is there was no end result as to how to get the meter to work or if it was actually made to work. To say the least I am green but I am trying. Thanks for listening and being patient with my ramble. I hope someone can help, suggest, point me or recommend. You always do!
Good Day,
Mike

Hi Mike.
I support your comments regarding training. I have no program knowledge, but give me a example or two and/or walk me through one time and I'm good to go. I hope your subtle hint (training video?) will be considered. That's probably Corey's domain and he's busy enough I'm sure. And has turned out terrific stuff already, just see the stuff at www.speedytraining.com.
I know I would purchase the database plug in right away for my research needs, if I knew enough to build forms and store the data on the net for later retrieval and entry into a stat package. Similar thoughts with some of the other plug-ins.
This is a great company and I'm sure your suggestion will be given consideration. Thanks for giving me an "in" on your suggestion.
Regards,
Michael :cool

Have you tried taking a look at the sample application that comes with each plugin? Just create a new project and choose the appropriate template. Each one of those gives an in-depth example and is fully commented so you can adapt the techniques to your own project.

Thanks Michael for your support. Very well said and right on. I have the speedyTraining cd-rom and its excellent. I would recommend it to everyone out there trying to get a one up on APMS 5. It help me over some rough edges several times.
Ted your suggestion I have tried. Looked at several times and looking at it now. No help at all for me. The sample it just that. It just shows examples of what the progress bars look like and how you could design and alter the appearence. I will keep trying to figure this one out and hope that someone out there has tried the progress bars and maybe could offer up a simple project just showing the bar in in simple action like I have asked help for. Thanks again to all and to IndigoRose for such an excellent product and a great support team.
Good Day,
Mike

I've searched all the forums and just want to see an example of a progress bar as files are being copied from the project to the final location on C:\\.
I would think this is a basic use for the plugin, but...to no avail!
Where do I start? :huh

User Worm has made a nifty little .dll that ... well, here's his post that decribes it:

Here's a sample Project that demonstrates some of the functionality
when using 'Progress Plugin' ..requires AMS Pro and 'licensed plugin'
the project makes use of several 'global functions'
Copies files(if any) from Published 'autoplay\docs' folder to a folder
in user's Temp Directory...displays Progress both Graphically and shows
an additional progress object that displays 'percentage'
like anything can always be tweaked and modified etc..
Hope helps some people out :yes
Addition: Link to BRETT's example..which helped me out greatly a while back..
