View Full Version : No Audio...AT ALL

Can anyone help. I'm a bit of a newbie to AMS5 (recently upgraded from v4) but I've played around with it a fair bit. For some reason, I am getting no playback of audio whatsoever, either in the design process or in Preview mode. I get no sound when I preview a file in a windows open dialogue, either from plain audio or video files. When I preview, the BG music isn't there, and the video files play fine, but no audio is present. I've tried umpteen different files and they all playback perfectly in other software. The problem is the same across ALL project files, even sample templates such as the audio player. I've tried uninstalling AMS and reinstalling but its made not difference. I know for definate that it has worked before, just seems to be a case of "when you actually need something..."

Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? Can anyone offer any advice.

Hi. Hmmm, that's odd. Never heard of anything like that before. Best thing to do is open a support ticket at http://support.indigorose.com . :)

For anyone that might be interested, it turned out that this problem was caused by some sort of conflict with an aspect of the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy "Creative Taskbar" software. I don't know what, reinstalled the latter and it fixed the problem that for some strange reason only affected AMS5, and none of the other software I use that's audio capable.

Hmmm, odd, I run an audigy here without any problem. But glad to hear you got it working anyhow, yippee! :)

You're not running AM on a NT-platform aren't you ?

Nope XP Pro, I know there's an issue with NT4 but the workaround for it made no difference.

It is very odd, it worked fine, then suddenly encountered this problem and I had made no changes to Creative stuff or AMS in between it working and then not.

but hey...its fixed now.

FWIW I've been reading up on the Creative drivers and it seems that they are sketchy. Rumor has it that they build really good cards and then fail to work on developing stable drivers. When I bought my audigy I received a CD with a bunch of software on it, including Cubase SE. So I installed it but it wouldn't work, just kept crashing all the time. Tried everything, re-installed it like 3 times. No dice, so I gave up.

Months have gone by. Then yesterday I re-installed the drivers and software and now suddenly Cubase works fine, excellent even. So go figure. It's clearly an issue of the drivers but anyhow I'm just glad to hear you got it going. :)

When dealing with 'driver' installation issues it is best to deal with the computer manufacturer's drivers first (e.g. Dell, Gateway, etc. etc.). If you have a custom made system (as I make my own, save the laptops for now) then go with the piece of hardware in question manufacturer's drivers.

Same goes for BIOS upgrades!

A general good source for drivers?

http://www.driverguide.com/

user: drivers
pass: all

*Note: Watch out for some gotch'as like 'legacy' hardware (ISA for example). You need to find drivers that are for ISA in that case and not for PCI.

Hope this helps...

I saw one home made driver a guy put out for the Audigy 2 which supposedly "unlocks a bunch of hidden features" but I didn't have the guts to try it.

BTW here's a link to <ominous voice> The Homemade Driver Site </ominous voice> for anyone who dares, MuHhauuahaa!!!

http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/

But seriously, that's strictly a "at your own risk" type of adventure, no one here endorses or reccomends you install anything from that site. But then again as I mentioned before, "MuHhauuahaa!!!". So...
