Any further update on the Plug-in release date.....

Ted Sullivan

To be realistic, we likely won't put out the new plugins until after the holidays. At that point, there will be a whole slew of cool new stuff released in that first week after January 1.

To whet your appetite, the following addons will definitely be available. Keep in mind that Object Plugins and Action Plugins only work with the Professional Edition, while things like the training CD's and audio clips can be used with the Standard edition as well.

Cryptographic Actions Plugin
Add a series of cryptographic features to your projects such as Base64, MD5, Blowfish and Rot13.

CD Audio Actions Plugin
Used to play audio CDs. The CDAudio plugin is perfect for working with "mixed-mode" CDs, where there are one or more audio tracks in addition to a data track. Mixed-mode CDs are often used to create an "enhanced" audio CD which plays normally in a regular CD player and presents additional multimedia content when placed in a computer's CD-ROM drive.

SQLite Actions Plugin
SQLite is an action plugin for AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0. It makes use of the SQLite Embeddable SQL Database Engine to add high-performance database functionality to any AutoPlay application.

XML Actions Plugin
Read/write and manipulate XML (Extensible Markup Language) files in your AutoPlay applications.

FTP Actions Plugin
FTP client actions such as upload, download etc.

ComboBox Object Plugin
The ComboBox object plugin allows you to add a combobox (dropdown list) to your project.

ThumbList Object Plugin
The ThumbList object plugin allows you to show a thumbnail view of image files. The following image formats are supported: bmp, jpg, pcx, png, tga, tif, wmf, apm, emf, psd or pcd. The control supports images of any dimensions and any color depths from 2 to 32 bits-per-pixel.

Progress Object Plugin
The Progress object plugin allows you to add an integrated progress meter/bar display to your project.

Calendar Object Plugin
The Calendar object plugin allows you to add an interactive calendar to your project.

WinButton Object Plugin
The WinButton object allows you to add a Windows-style button to your project.

Speedy Training Volume 1: Learning AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0
A comprehensive video training system to help you get started creating amazing projects with AMS50. Covers all of the basics from learning the workspace to creating projects, adding objects, using the layour tools, working with actions and publishing your projects.

Liquid Cabaret Mouse Shorts and Longs Volume 1
A collection of 200 original "mouse-over" sound effects plus 100 super cool "transition" sounds. All of them are provided in high quality OGG and MP3 format. They'll add a really cool punch to your projects.

There you go. Pricing has not been finalized, but you can be sure it will be quite competitive. Depending on the addon, you're likely looking at between $20 and $40 each, and we'll also have some great bundles too.

Happy Holidays!

Let us know when pricing is established. Some of us with some extra $$ might be willing to prepay if we can do so before the end of the year. One of those use it or lose it kind of things...

Can anyone tell me what time IR will release these plugins?

Corey
01-04-2004, 11:49 PM
We can't post an exact date, but I can tell you though that we've pretty well got everything done and together and we are in the very final stages of packaging, getting shipping details in order, and getting everything released. So very, very soon, but no date. It won't be long to wait though, you'll see some stuff out before you know it...

Ditto on the 2 newest training CDs, "Advanced Objects" and "Advanced Functions, Tables, and Data Manipulation". :)

Thank you Corey for updating us nail bitters! (grin)

I even stopped reading up on Linux and other "deep" studies. at least until I get my first major AMS 5 Pro project off the ground. I want to keep my thinking clear for the coding end. Nothing like pulling a != when I wanted a ~= in an AMS 5 Pro application.

I'm tired of pulling hair out of my head!! I need help with these "Easy" Tables and ListBoxs :( The week of the 12th maybe?

Corey

These CDs take a minute to do properly. I'm getting faster but I needed to just rest this weekend, my eyes were getting poundy. You have to know where to draw the line and keep yourself healthy. Anyhow eyes are better, guitar is glad to see me again (Look for a cool MP3 post later in the Computer Chat section, my heavy metal version of the Yardbird's "Shape of Things to Come" :) ). Perhaps this week, I'll keep you posted Banana-san. In the meantime have some pie and think about Boston in the fall, it won't be long...

Also if you need something to displace your pain try listening to Yanni, it'll make this seem like peanuts.

Don't forget cucumbers on those eyes! (sheepish grin)

Incidentally I use a flat-panel LCD. Eye strain is down 80 percent now! Non of those cancerous rays inbound to my eyes either! I recommend the bump up if you (anyone) haven't yet.

Seriously, I am glad you know not to give in and give a less than sub par product by shipping to early!

There is still plenty to tackle in the mean time (least for me). Everything from Shortcut Key learning to practicing with the Debug action(s).

I want to know this product inside and out. Nothing like coding and then you hit that "brick wall" and burn up hour after hour to figure out an easy problem!

Corey

Yes I think you are correct. I will have to secure a flat screen monitor ASAP for the sake of my health. The one I have my eye on is about $1,500 CAN though so I'll have to make this a saving project or something. Anyhow thanks for the tip, you're 100% right, I'll make that a priority both henceforth and forthwith.

FWIW... I bought some Samsung Syncmasters (the 191T) for my editing station. Each about $600 USD. Very nice.

I'm curious - what hardware does yur editing station consist of?

Corey
01-11-2004, 06:47 PM
Actually the very monitor I speak of is a Samsung Syncmaster. Ironic. Uncanny. :) The thing for me is that the next montior I but is going to get used for like 2-3 years so rather than stay 17" I'd rather pitch in the extra money and go 21" right off the bat. Someday... :)

Wow, 21” would be awesome. Have you ever used a dual monitor set-up? I’m using two 17” CRT’s because it was cheaper than one 19”, plus it gives more screen area. I’ve been using dual monitors for 5 or 6 years now, and I’ve become so used to it, that I have problems on single monitor machines. Someday I’ll upgrade to LCD’s I hope.

I purchased a MultiSync LCD 1530V. It is only a 15" flat panel LCD; however, it has not only saved my eyes, it has also freed up some desk space! This unit is two years old, give or take. Surprisingly it has served well. I do notice the difference from my work station unit (I purchased for only $98, no rebates! - 19" CRT) for sure though. The cost is to great still for me to justify upgrading. (Also, wife says no way hosey. I pout to no avail). (chuckles)

Recently, I setup a wireless network and threw in a KVM switch to handle quick changes from one station to another without adding another monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Hey, I have to have room for more cookies and pop. You understand. (grin)

I edit code on one station and "shoot video" on the other.

Corey

I don't ever use a desk nor chairs so that's not an issue for me. :) If you tried to work the hours I work in a chair you'd be permanently crippled in a year.

But yes Jim I have used a dual setup, used to have one here with my old Matrox vidcard. Good for some scenarios but again, my eyes didn't like it. It just feels unhealthy somehow sitting with two CRT monitors glaring on me.

I'm going to have to take this LCD more seriously and get a plan together now that I think about it. I've had this on the backburner for far too long.

During daylight hours I stand about half of them.

I do believe I would be in the same boat as you Corey if I sat that much.

My duties entail moving around a lot and partly because sitting... well that is for at home. (grin)

Corey
01-11-2004, 11:17 PM
I've never used chairs, all my life. Sounds odd but what can I say. I'm a floor person.

I work at home, but I sit Yoga style. Keeps me healthy. I haven't had a single back pain of any sort, ever. I tried sitting in a chair once a long time ago, by the third day I was aching everywhere, even my knees. I took that as a sign that it's no good for me.

When I used to work in an office and teach at various schools I would just stand always, or sometimes lean/sit on the edge of a table or desk.

Anyhow I notice some people prefer to have a nice desk and chair, so it's probably just a generality to say one or the other is better or worse but I find lots of advantages to the deskless life. For example, if you work on the floor you can pile big stacks of stuff all around you and you never have to move to get at anything. That's a big plus. :) Most of the time my office looks roughly like a tornado site.

Wait... that's not a stage of being organized? (chuckle)

Corey
01-12-2004, 12:48 AM
At the moment of birth I was fairly organized but ever since it's been a fairly steady spiral, by the time I'm 90 I'll have my stuff spread out right across the front lawn and a chicken stapled to my shirt.

Here's how I rationalize it:

Did you ever notice that every farming town has at least one old guy who spends all his time making miniature things and putting them on his lawn? And he's always happy to saunter out and give you a verbal history of it too. No matter what time of day it is, he's just there building miniature stuff and telling people about it, i.e. "Yep, I remember when I welded that tiny windmill..."

Those guys have all their tiny screws socked away in color coded baby food jars, and they have a series of nails tapped near the door to hang their varnish brushes from in descending order of size, and peg boards where they've carefully traced around their wrenches with a jiffy marker so that they can tell when they're not there, etc.

Here's where it all gets very noble. There's only so much organizational energy in the universe. It's a limited resource. So I have, very valiantly, sacrificed my own personal share for those old guys. Pure and simple, it's just something I felt I had to do. For the sake of the kids, they love that miiniature stuff and hearing all the tales about it, etc.

So I figure at the end of the day, every minute I avoid doing housework makes the world a better place to live for everyone, not just me. And really, isn't that what it's all about?

Yea Corey, I’m lazy too.;)

You have obviously given a higher degree of thought in rationalizing your actions, or should I say inactions, than I have. I’ve managed to collect the color coded baby food jars, I’ve just never gotten around to sorting out the screws. Then again, having a few loose screws rather suits my personality.

Corey
01-12-2004, 03:52 AM
Wow, I thought the jar and screws were a stark vision but I hadn't even considered the folks who aspire to such things but get bogged down halfway, i.e. the empty jar syndrome. Someone should make a movie of that. Sitting in your garage staring at the jars.

As for the thought I put into all this, naw, I make it up as I go along. Part of true power-laziness is avoiding all thought not directly related to the task at hand until it can absolutely no longer be avoided. I have mastered that aspect of my personal bushido, and I have several seized brake drums to prove it... :)

Someday I am going to hire one of those miniature building guys to build a miniature version of his own front lawn, including all it's contents and a little model of him standing there explaing it all to a complete stranger, and I'm going to put it in my living room. Twice per day I'm going to sit in the center of it and sip tea out of a tiny little thimble. Maybe I'll force my cat to wear a sweater and sit with me. Sweet.

I'm curious - what hardware does yur editing station consist of?It's a Media 100 XRi running 8.2.1 on a Mac G4 Dual 1.0 G processor. Although the hardware isn't the flashiest, it works great, and nearly flawlessly. Hard to complain about that.

Of course, I augment the system with all sorts of software.

It has 1-14-2004, it is now the 1-21-2004 and all you have on the site http://www.speedytraining.com/site/buy_now.php

It is STILL $TBA I love AMS5 but need a little help getting up to speed as I do not use it DAY and DAY out and need those nice training insights to help me maek it work to it's fullest.

Hi. Just click on the info link in the same row as the Training CDs and then click on the samples link. Doing so will lead you here:

http://www.speedytraining.com/site/products.php

There you can check out the CD, some free sample lessons, and order it if you so choose. This CD is an introduction to all the features. There are 2 more CDs coming out very soon which provide slightly more advanced training in specific areas:

1. "Objects from A-Z"
2. "Functions, Tables, and Data Handling"

Then over the next couple months there will be a few more, mostly project CDs, i.e. ":Let's build an interactive shopping catalog with secure cart" or "Let's build a product kiosk" and so forth...

Hope that helps. :)
