View Full Version : wmv on win98?

Hey there... I have some stupid questions to ask... It's like this... while viewing my previous AMS4.0.0.3 projects, many people complained about having to install a divXcodec to be able to view the video materials... due to my previous good experiences in working with wmv format, I'm using it in my present project.
There won't be any problems on XP and ME, but what about win98? As I do all my work on XP, I don't know if there's some older version of windows media player installed as one of regular win98 components or not?
If there is, do I have to put the whole (13mb)MediaPlayer9 upgrade option in the project or is there an easier way to solve the compatibility problem (for example, installing only wm9 codecs on project initialization)?
Is there a way for my application to query the operating system about the current version of wmplayer, to avoid reinstalling the same drivers as the ones already present?
Does wmv format work on MacOS?
Having all those questions asked, I think avi's were a better choice :(
Thanx in advance, greetings from Croatia!!!

Not sure if .wmv plays on Mac but probably. AutoPlay projects are PC only though. As to the divX issue, that is a codec. If you encode your video with a codec the end user with need to have the same codec installed to view that video, i.e. divX, WMV, Quicktime, whichever... That's independent of AutoPlay Media Studio. Check out Google for some great links on video formats and how to make the best choice for your scenario.

In the meantime, i tried the project on Win98, I installed the media player9 upgrade to the 6.4 version that was previously (by default) installed on win98, and, while playing it in Windows, my wmv (made with Vegas4.0d) works just great, but when played on AMS media player object, all I see are some wild colors changing... with an ok sound (coded with mp3)... divx's still work OK. So, wm9 codecs are installed on OS, but they obviously don't work in AMS project. Why is that? Thanx for the feedback.

Make sure you have the latest AMS40 patch v4.0.0.6.
