Release Candidate 1 (v 0.5.5.10) is now available for download. This will probably be the last release before the final release on the 14th.

Training CDs should be ready to ship for Friday too. I had to redo it from scratch for reasons of silliness but its on track and almost done again. :)

Sure, I'll share but only if you promise to laugh. I did all 34 lessons during beta and RC1. One of the things there was that you couldn't preview without clicking to shift focus from the script editor to the stage. Brett fixed that in the last build much to my pure joy since I F5 directly from the script editor A LOT.

Anyhow I had been saying, "OK now don't forget to click on the stage to shift focus before you press the preview key" throughout all the lessons. Not good.

Also I noticed a big jump in performance for this last release which shows the app off much better than the beta, which was great but was a beta and so sometimes acted a tad beta-ish. I want the world to see AMS 5.0 at its very best.

Since we plan to sell this CD until 6.0 I couldn't stand the thought of it looking beta-ish, etc. The new re-written material is far better and more relevant anyhow (The original CD had too much non-AMS related chaff, I had to remind myself this training CD isn't about design, it's about AMS) plus I now had the chance to use a slightly oversized cursor for the screen vids, which I wished I had done in the first place anyhow. Makes it much easier to follow the mouse actions, and it's only slightly oversized so it still looks good.

Appendix A: Lessons Learned

1. Always wait until last beta release to create training videos for something.
2. Things rarely turn out as planned.
3. Stay focused on the objective.

But speaking seriously, lately I've noticed that my sense of humor/ personality does cause certain people to place less stock in my technical skill. So I've decided to turf it 'starting now' because that, in turn, raised the issue of team perception for me, and I'm sure we all agree that it's not fair for one individual on a team to knowingly do things which affect the team's credibility. So that's that, next fall I'll assess the success of this decision and report back. Should go good though, hopefully this year will mean lots of new users and lots of new questions to answer, and it's important to me that they all perceive me, and the team, as being able, trustable, and appropriate to associate themselves with...

hey.. i have ams4 and got this email this morning which *kinda* says to get the special upgrade price of $195 i have to order ams5 by the 14th november?

"Place an order for the AutoPlay Media Studio 5.0 Professional Edition upgrade by November 14, 2003 and pay only $195 US"

I cant afford to upgrade just yet, but will I be able to upgrade later on at the same price? (poor university student here :( )

cheers

Corey,

Can you please tell me a little more about the training CD? Does it come with 5.0? If not, what is the cost? Is it 1 CD or more? Tell me more.

Thanks,
Sully

I can't say for sure on the price. Inexpensive though. That was important to us, to get it out there and you have to price things under $50 if you wish to do that. $29 has been mentioned but it's not my call.

As for the CD, yes it's one CD with 34 video lessons which is geared towards getting people up to speed on 5.0. It's a bit simplistic in spots for advanced users since we wanted it to be useful for first timers too, but then again if it's only $29 it definitely would still be of value to them. There will be more CDs coming out soon too. When the CD is out I will announce it here, i.e. next week, and I will post 3-4 free lessons so you can decide for yourself. :)

This first one was a bit tricky but now that I have a better rapport with the process I think I will be able to add training titles much quicker. Plans include training CDs for complete projects, design training, pure scripting, advanced concepts, etc...
