It gets more interesting as you go...

A friend sent me this link tonight - not the best Flash around, but some fun puzzles nonetheless - and some are kind of cute.

That is super Flash. I love it. Surprised you say not the best, I'm amazed at the design aesthetics...

I was thinking as I finished it, "man that was too short."

Obviously, the mark of excellent work - always leave 'em wanting more!

I guess I was too quick in my post - I hadn't yet finished the puzzle. :)

Oh I see. I'm not sure if I have or not.,, I'm sitting in a boiler room of some sort.

For me this is easily some of the best flash I have ever seen. This is in my top ten all time favorites now. Thanks Eric.

Care to speculate on the methods for creating all that background art? Can't even imagine how labor intensive and time consuming a project like this must be...

Yeah, get through that boiler room, and you're home free.

In snooping around, I've discovered this was created in the Czech Republic by an obviously talented design firm. As you said, the aesthetics grow on you. I played it a second time for the pure enjoyment of it.

I think the art kind of mimicks that of the Monty Python stuff done by Gilliam back in the 70s. That is to say, I wouldn't be surprised if the background art, along with other elements were actually created by hand the old-fashioned way, then scanned and cleaned in Photoshop. But that's just my first guess.

Rightyo, just figured it out. :)

Yes I agree, very Gilliam. I really, really love it. Czech's in the mail. Got to love Czechs, they are a unique and profoundly thoughtful lot based upon the ones I have met...

The thought that this background art may have been done by hand (I see some photographics elements but some which aren't), even partly so, is scary. Beautiful, restores my faith...

My grandma's Czech. I guess that means I'm at least 1/4 cool. :)

I think coolness is like a toggle, no percentages, but I would say that being cool...

Just found their site as Perpetuum. Interestingly weak portfolio. Something doesn't add up. Clearly this Flash was not done by the same people who's portfolio that is. My guess is that the Flash is done by the guy who's face is on the Hookah smoking gatekeeper. Probably started with this company and then quickly moved on. (I noticed that companies who I worked for 4-5 years ago still have all my stuff as their main portfolio content even though I haven't spoke to them or seen them since then. Not that I care but I suspect same here)

Perpetuum seems to be a bar/club so I bet all the designers who come up through there contribute to the site/portfolio. I would like to identify and locate the web site of the individual who did this.

According to that article, it's a different company. :)

I see. Hmmm... Went through some links form perpetuum (the onle linked to in the puzzle movie), I can't get over how cool that whole slavic/eastern eurpoean style is. So industrial and stark yet so gritty and geometric.

I'm going to go look through some art books, I have a craving for Stella now. :)

MASSIVE blizzard here right now. Sk8 is dead for '03... I need to find a snowless home by next winter.

Here's the link to the designer himself:

Nope. That's the same link I'm talking about. Go through the portfolio, no way that's the same designer. Not even similar in terms of aesthetic taste nor level of detail. That's my opinion anyhow. It's like apples and oranges, and I'm not looking for similar art, just similar level art, i.e. I can spot a non-Dali created Dali piece 9 times out of 10...

Sorry, Corey. I beg to differ.

If you don't believe me, run through the puzzle again.

You misunderstand. What I'm saying is that this Jocob is certainly not the same person that created those crappy print posters in the portfolio, i.e Amanita is a group and this seems to be the sole offering by him on the site, check out the other animations in the portfolio, way different style, way less skilled. I'll look through the credits later but I just don't think so...
