Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum, a refreshingly nice community too!

I am having some problem with a CDrom I just produced using Autoplay 4. These are;

1. The wmv files I encoded using Windows movie Maker, and integrated into a CDrom, do not play on my friends PC although he can hear the sound okay. I dont know much about codecs stuff I have read people talking about here but my feeling is my friend must not have some required codec installed, am I right? If so, how may I go about getting the CD rom to autodetect what codec is required and then install automatically? Basically I want the process to be seamless for the end user as they are real PC village idiots (a bit like myself he he!).

I noticed when I check the distribution folder that the wmv files are contained in the DATA folder (within the distribution folder) but they are actually 'dav' files - although i recognise these as the wmv files due to the file size. Should these dav files not be in the distribution folder, could this be the problem? If not what is the solution please anyone?

2. The CDrom did not autoplay when he inserted it, he had to go to Start, Run etc. Why did it not autoplay, he has win xp machine?

These two problems aside, I had no problems when testing the CDrom on my machine, either getting the video to play and also the CDrom to autorun when inserted. My biggest problem really is getting these two things ironed out as I need this to be foolproof for the end user who is not PC proficient.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Al James,

1) This issue probably resides in the codec as you have mentioned. If you use the WMP 9.0 codec then the user will have to have WMP 9.0 installed to view your video. I think that your best bet would be to encode your videos in an earlier codec or MPEG-1 as this is what most suggest for compatibility.

As for the videos being in the DATA directory this is normal as AMS is simply renaming the file for internal use. If you would like to have the videos on the CD (and not renamed) then you will have to use the "External Reference" option when you are selecting your video in the Media Player Object.

2) If the CD-ROM did not autoplay it is most likely one of the following reasons.

- The user has turned this feature off in Windows. There is no cure for this.

- You have forgotten to burn the autorun.inf file.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Can you tell me how I can enclode using different encoder as the Windows movie maker only has WMV or DV AVI encoding? How do I get the end result as an MPEG1 please?

Thanks
