After playing around with the demo of TrueUpdate, I just purchased:
- TrueUpdate
- Visual Patch
We have TrueUpdate working with paid subscriptions (ASP pages) by downloading a single file.... works great! TrueUpdate performs the checks to see whether or not to download a file. From there, I thought all I would have to do is have TrueUpdate pull down a VisualPatch EXE that would place the files in the proper locations... app path, system path etc.

Since the TrueUpdate does all the checking etc, I just want VisualPatch to be "dumb" and put files in the proper locations when it is run - it will only run if the criteria is met in TrueUpdate. I can not seem to figure out a way to make this happen though as VisualPatch seems to want to know every version in the field in order to be updated. That is, if a match is not found, it will not be updated. Is there a way to work around this? I am hopefully missing something, because at the moment, I can not envision how these 2 applications would work together.

Thank you kindly for any help you can provide, I am excited to get this up and working.

Your best bet would be to use Setup Factory for that. Visual Patch is really intended only to find files and replace them if the proper criteria is met. It sounds like all you want is an installer that will put files in the right place no matter what.

So you are saying that TrueUpdate would download an EXE created by SetupFactory instead of one from VisualPatch and TrueUpdate would run that EXE instead?

Can I trade VisualPatch for SetupFactory - I just got it on Friday? We do not seem to have a use for VisualPatch. I have seen mention of using TrueUpdate and VisualPatch together, but I don't really see the relationship.

Thank you,
Keith

Call or email our sales department with your order number and we'll see what we can do for you.

TrueUpdate and Visual Patch do have a strong relationship with each other. Visual Patch uses a secure deployment method that ensures that the user has everything on their system that they're supposed to, and "patches" the files approriately rather than just "installing" them.

So your situation is a little more unique in which Setup Factory would probably be the best candidate for you.

Yes, you can download any type of file from TrueUpdate, so you could certainly launch a Setup Factory executable rather than a Visual Patch executable.
