View Full Version : ability to list code

the code-list nature of SF6 has become a hassle to me every once in awhile, since you can view all code as you would in normal coding programs (such as c++, or any type of html/java/php scripting)

i dunno if you have this feature hidden somewhere, but it would be nice to have a screen that sorts the installer code in a similar format to c++ or others, along with syntax highlighting, and maybe even the little suggestion dropdown box when you're typing a command (like in Dreamweaver MX, when you type in a bracket, it drops a list at the cursor of possible commands to follow the bracket)

i dunno if this is above and beyond the call of SF6, but i think it would be very handy to be able to see all the code spread out for easier reference, as opposed to opening menu/closing menu/opening menu, compare, then repeat, lol, and it would make it simpler for copying/pasting code into the forums for assistance or to show a good solution to an installer problem...

heck, the syntax and dropdown box aren't even big needs at all (just little niceties), but a complete code list would totally rule

just my .02 cents

Thanks for the comments. You'll probably be happy to know that we've been talking about pretty much the same thing over here. It's a pretty sure bet for v7. Anything to make Setup Factory the best installer on the market!

Excellent news... My suggestion, three views:
1) Wizard view - Like current
2) Menu view - Like current
3) Code view - A new mode that basically allowed you to hand edit the existing project code. In code view you would still have the actions reference and be able to add them via the current interface, but you would also be able to type them in manually. Code validation checking while typing like visual studio would be nice, but I'd take my chances on misspellings to have a code view.

And syntax highlighting, autocompletion...don't worry, we're thinking way ahead of you. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

I figured as much, IR folks appear to be a pretty sharp lot... /ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif

Are you also thinking about making the Action window sizable so you can see more than a small number of actions?

If not, it would be helpful to have a horzontal scrool bar to at least be able to see all of an action without opening it.

Yes, I think it is safe to say that if the dialog stays the same in the future, it will be resizable dialog.
