Win XP......SF Ver 7.0.6.1

Problem – creating setup for FileMaker Pro V10 Solution

After creating a Setup (for a FileMaker Pro Runtime solution) and installing it, the Runtime will not start the program. However, after the program is installed, I can start the solution by clicking on the application that’s inside the folder that was installed. It appears that the Runtime does not recognize the application after a setup is created. It should also be mentioned that the Runtime works fine prior to creating a setup. Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance
Stan

Sounds like your install is corrupting the runtimes.
be sure you're not generating any active/x registration errors in your logs. Order can be important.

Is your application an exe or something else (like MyApp.006) that the filemaker runtime "handles"?

Thanks for responding. The Runtime is an exe. application created by FMP when binding the files so that customers don't need to by FMP program. I never had a problem in the past 10 yrs of using SF. I downloaded SF-8 (I was using v7) thinking that might be the problem with FMP-v10. Still no luck. My knowledge in active/x registration, etc is non-existant.

I don't think the problem lies with the installer software, but rather what's being done with it.

can you post your project file?

not sure what is meant by "post your project file." Sorry

J.....did you get the file?

Yes; I just did. I'll have a look later.

I don't see anything obvious.
I looked at a filemaker project here and there's no active/x files to register, and they too have all the files going into the app folder.

so w/o knowing exactly how you're launching it hte two different ways; I'd say the 1st way is "wrong"...

The program (Tip and Idea Customer DB.USR) needs to be launced by the Tips And Ideas Customer DB.exe file. It appears that it's trying you start but eventually nothing happens. I've been using SF for the last 11 yrs with FMP and it always worked great. Is this something that I should discuss with Indigo?

based on what you've given me, no, you should take it up with FM. Your certainly free to take it up with IR tho.

Since you say it launches one way but not another; so far, I dont' know what each of those ways are; so I am out of ideas.

Good luck.

FWIW: I have 6 setups all using FMP for 2 different clients. none has reported this "issue", but then again; I don't know what the issue is.

After I bind the program I'm able to run it by launching with the exe file. After I create the setup and install the program on either XP or Vista, the exe will not launch the program. If it works before the install process, one can conclude (?) that it has to be something with creating the installer or the installing process. The difference being, I'm using FMP v10 vs v8.5. I purchased SF 8.2 thinking that could be the problem. No luck. Thanks for you time/efforts. Greatly apprreciated. If I get this thing resolved, I'll let you know.

I can 99.99% guarantee your issue has nothing to do with SUF.

Look, remove the "installer" from the equation.
manually copy the files over and make it work.

once you get it to work on a new/clean system, then replicate what you did with SUF.

Right now; all you have suf doing is copying files & creating a few shortcuts.. That's it. It's not your problem. Your problem is, more than likely, you missed some new requirement in FM 10 .

I just registered SF8. Moved each file individually vs having SF move them. Started the Build process and rec'd the following msg. which I did not receive when having SF program move files and ran Build on the unregistered SF8.

1 problem at a time.
Your original problem was running your FM program on a system.
manually copy the files to your new system (LEAVE SUF OUT OF IT) and get your app to run.

Are you successful?

The FMP Runtime program (Tip and Idea Customer DB.USR) needs to be launced by the Tips And Ideas Customer DB.exe file.

as stated in #13...After I bind the FMP program I'm always able to run it by launching with the .exe file. However, after I create the setup and install the program on either XP or Vista, the .exe will not launch the program (Tip and Idea Customer DB.USR).

Sorry if I created some confusion. Yeasterday I worked on this problem for 14 hrs trying different things w/o success.

I have no idea what you mean by "bind".. but if you can copy your files from to your new computer & get it running, you can do the same using SUF.

You seem to not understand what I'm suggesting..

Leave suf out of the equation completely.

Start over.

Have a new clean machine
Copy your FM files to this new machine (over a network or off cd) NOT via an installer, just "COPY" using explorer or dos.

Once you get that working, you'll know the steps needed to replicate with an installer.
