access 2000 run time

I have an access 2000 application that I wish to distribute. Some of the end users will have full ms access , or access run time on their PC's, others will not. Some end users may have some other version of ms access installed. How do I check to see if access 2000 or access 2000 run time is on the target PC, and install access 2000 run time if it is not?

Would the install of access 2000 run time on a system with access 97, xp, etc., cause problems on the target PC?
