View Full Version : media player ocx
Got a question about media player active x control. Will the new version 9 control work in Win98+. If yes, how can I get a distributable copy of that? Scoured Microsoft all day looking. Would it be included in that media SDK thing? I am a novice programmer and don't even know what SDK stands for. As usual Microsoft information is completely accurate but completely useless.
Question 2:
I got the distributable windows media codec 9 upgrade. It says in the documention that it must have WiMP 7.1 to work. Does this mean it will not work with out the newer active x control? I know this is a little outside of the boards scope but hoping one of you videophiles might have an answer.
Any help would be appreciated.

try reading up at their site, all the info is there, for example I found this page in less than one minute. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/player/sysreq.aspx

Thanks for the reply Corey. I guess I didn't explain the situation completely enough. I created a project that uses the Windows meida V9 encoder. Once the WMP V9 codec is installed on an XP machine that has the version 9 activeX control the videos work great. When I run the CD on a win98 machine that has the WMP V9 codec but the old 6.4 activeX I get sound but no video. I tried installing the version 9 activeX control but when I run the project and try to play a video the app crashes and says there was an error in msdxm.ocx.
Is this becasue it's a win98 machine or because the machine is running WMP 7.1? Do I need to have the V9 activeX control? Microsoft says that media player version 6.4 will not recognize the Version 9 codec but it doesn't say it that appliex to the 6.4 activeX control.
The document you reffered me to gives me media player 9 requirments but I'm actually looking for version9 activeX control requirements and whether or not that control is required to playback .WMV version 9 videos.
