My next door neighbour is in the Britiish Army & due to go off to Afghanistan next month. He is looking for a decent rugged (preferably) head-cam type camera or could be attached to a helmet even if by a cable between the main camera and the lens. Something that if he drops or knocks whilst out in the desert will still work happily ever after.

He wants it for personal use and not because the British military (allegedly) fail to equip their soldiers...!

Ideally not expensive either! The Brits are not paid as much as their colleagues across the pond.;)

Thanks - John

I have done alot of on-board motorcycle video and photography. Your buddies quest is not as simple as you think.

The number one issue is theft and the attraction of theft. Also, I doubt his superiors will allow him to integrate such a device as part of the daily uniform or routine. The other really big issue is how to either render or store large amounts of data on the fly.

The resolving recommendation would be to spend about $200 for a Canon point and shoot. Buy an 8gig card and shoot either video or stills. If it gets stolen or broken...oh well...go buy another.
