View Full Version : Using the Uninstall
Hello,
I am trying to use the uninstall from TrueUpdate or AutoPlay MEdia Studio. Since the uninstall gets build in this program I thought this would be the appropriate place to ask the question. What I am trying to do is issue an update or issue a True Update file which uninstalls the AutoPlay program from the computer. I have looked and worked with both and really cannot figure out how to run the uninstall program from another one of the programs. I guess I don't really understand how the shortcut to the uninstall program works either. I have tried to run the uninstall.xml from other environments and failed. Thank you for taking the time to look at this problem!
Hi MSP,
My question for you is why would you want to issue an update that uninstalls a commercial program like AutoPlay? Maybe if you explain a little bit more about what you are trying to do someone will be able to help you. However I must admit that it seems a bit odd that you are creating an update that would uninstall a commercial product like AutoPlay (created by the good folks here at Indigo Rose) from an end-user's system.

Are you using those applications as an example?
are you asking how to manually remove an application from the command line?
<path to uninstall>\uninstall.exe /U:<path to unisntall>\uninstall.xml
I need to make a whole new program, and uninstall the whole old program from everyone's computer who has it. I am not trying to get rid of autoplay! I could just email everyone and tell them to uninstall it, but I think it would be better if everyone who has it could just download an update which runs the uninstaller. I don't know, there might not be a good way to do it.

Do you know the path to the old uninstall.exe and uninstall.xml ?
did you try running the program and pass it hte parameter I specified?
I figured it out. I just made a batch file which runs the uninstaller the exact same way as clicking on the shortcut in the start menu does. Just by copying the target from the shortcut and pasting it in the batch file. I then used that batch file to be ran as an update to everyone who has the old version which means the next time they open it it will ask them to uninstall it. Thanks!

Another problem of doing it this way is when the True Update 'tu.exe' runs the batch file it cannot delete the tu.exe file in the program folder since it is running. You have to kill that process first.
