View Full Version : RSS feed - is it broken?

I seem to be stuck on last week's news on the IR forums RSS feed. Perhaps something broke in a forum software update? Anyone else seeing their RSS feed stuck in the past? I tried deleting the feed connection and then re-assigning it, which seemed to work until I realized it just took a new snapshot and wasn't updating either.
Using Firefox 3.

If you open this in your browser, do you see new posts?:

There has been no update applied that would have affected these ... so it should certainly work as intended.

Yeah - it's the strangest thing. Check out the attached screen cap that I just took. You'll notice that the top-most recent thread is "PHP Job Offer," which was originally posted by Bruce about 4 hours ago, which is about the time today that I re-created the toolbar bookmark in Firefox 3. Look beneath that, and you'll see there are at least three (3) different threads newer than that one in other forums which are not showing up in the RSS feed. As a matter of fact, this will be how my RSS bookmark looks for the Indigo Rose Software Forums going forward into the future. It will never update from this point.
I know it's something quirky with your forums' feed, because all my other feeds are working just fine. (BBC, Digg, etc.)

I searched Google for this error, and though I didn't come up with what you've described specifically, it looks like there are a few different users with issues between vBulletin RSS feeds and FireFox 3. Hopefully any FF3 issues will be fixed in a future update of vBulletin.
As for the RSS feed in general -- I added the feed to my browser (Firefox 2) and then created a new thread. It did show up within an hour in the feed.
On a related note -- on the vBulletin forums it was stated that the RSS feed lists new threads, not new posts. So if I understand that correctly, if there are no *new* threads created for a week, but existing threads are updated, the RSS feed won't update. Is that in line with what you are seeing?

Not at all, unfortunately. My RSS list is identical right now to the time of my last post in this thread from yesterday. In the meanwhile, there has been at least one totally new thread started. It's odd... New screencap to show is attached.

That is odd indeed. Here's what mine looks like. It could be some sort of cache issue. I've opened a bug report with vBulletin linking to this thread -- hopefully they'll address it in an update soon.
Thanks for pointing this out.

It is a minor inconvenience in the big picture, but I really do like the RSS feature - helps me to identify new topics quickly. :) Thanks, Desmond.
