    Drawing graphics?

Is there any way to draw graphics on an image surface in AMS? I need to display and print some bar graphs.

You can't "draw" in AMS, but you can easily draw the lines you need in a graphics program that supports png24 transparency (like PhotoShop or Macromedia Fireworks), draw the lines there, be sure the canvas/background is transparent, save as png and open that as an image object in AMS. It will look like you drew it in AMS You may have to play with Bring to Front and Send to Back to make sure that the "empty" transparent part of the image doesn't "cover" other objects.

Here's an image of what I am working on: the red fabric with curls is my background image for the page and the zigzag stitchlines is an image object in transparent png format.

    Hope this helps,

For bar graphs you could use some narrow images (e.g. a solid color, or a gradient) for the individual bars and then resize them dynamically at run time.

If you wanted to avoid distortion from resizing (say, to use a picture of something for each bar), you could use actions to slide the images up and down (position them) behind another object which acts as a mask, e.g. an image that contains the scale at the bottom of the graph.

(You could also use the Shape plugin for this if you want simple solid colour objects.)

You can also check out this example.

it is a flash file that will build graphs on the fly through xml.

            Check this out...

AMS & IR continue to amaze me.
I've been trying to create a children's coloring book for over a year now...

A light bulb just popped ON!!!

Check this out! Needs lots of clean up - but it's a start.
Anyone who uses it please post back your improvements.

            Thanks,

            Question for IR:
This creates dynamic objects - I don't know if there is a limitation in AMS as to the number of objects created...???

Thanks for the responses. I attempted to load draw.apz in AMS6 and got an error 'encountered an error parsing the archive'

Yeh, it was written in 7. If you have the 7 Trial it will load okay.
Let me know if you want me to port it back to 6.

Thanks, I've posted a 'friendlier' version on a new thread.
Kind of like the old Etch-a-Sketch. Not much use for anything, but fun to play with.

                            Line graph example

                            lledden

I've attached a simple example of a line graph using AMS.
The background graph is from a 'clip' of an Excel spreadsheet; so everything here is real basic.

                            (It was designed in AMS7.)

Bar graph should be easier, as Lorne suggested, resize a small image and stretch the images across a graph.
