No Sound in Win9X but works in XP

I am building my AMS4.0 project in XP and it works 100%, however, i have just noticed that when i boot into Win98 (or run my cd in win9x) when my autorun starts it play the project load up sound but i dont get any of the mouse move over sounds or mouse click sounds. I have dual boot system and are testing in both (same hardware). How can i make the sounds play in both OSes?

I have just tested this in WinNT4 Sp6a and it also doesnt work. I used to use a wav file at startup when autoplay starts, but then i changed it to .mp3 to minimise space, could it be that the mp3 playing somehow disables wav playing?

So in short:
Win98 = startup mp3 = sound
mouse over/mouse click = no sound
NT4Sp6a = startup mp3 = sound
mouse over/mouse click = no sound
Xp:startup mp3 = sound
mouse over/mouse click = sound
Win2000 = not tested yet

ANy ideas why?
