Trying to run a .wmv video file

I am trying to run a wmv file that I have downloaded from a vendor's web site. I received his permission to use it in one of my programs. I have worked with mpg's and avi's but never a wmv file. After I compile and try to run the file I receive this error. The program runs as a standalone on my PC.

It hasAms4test.exe in the Windows Title Banner
the error reads
Error:Access violation at 0X034963C3 (tried to read from 0X03A66000) program terminated.

What version of AutoPlay are you using? make sure that you have the newest version 4.0.0.3. What version of Media Player is installed on the system that is giving you troubles?
