I need to rip a small video from a clients DVD to place on his web site. Anyone know a way to do this "right"?
Maybe this can help... didn't try it, thougth...

I had a similar project where the client wanted the DVD to be online, menus and all. I used CloneDVD mobile to convert the DVD movie to an .avi, then used Sorenson squeeze to convert it to a .flv. Which turned out great!! I took screen shots of the menus and of all of the static images on the DVD. Then imported them all in to Flash and twirled my magic wand. The client was extremely pleased with the final result. The file size was kinda large but the client wanted a quality video. I would post a link but I am under contract. Sorry.
You can do one .vob at a time in CloneDVD Mobile. That makes it easier once you get into Flash.
links to programs:
Slysoft CloneDVD Mobile (http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html)
Sorenson Squeeze (http://www.sorensonmedia.com/products/?pageID=1#ppc3)

Hey Agro, which model did you use to get the .avi and what size did you convert to?
I am using Slysoft CloneDVD Mobile v1.1.4.0 and AnyDVD v6.1.3.2.
In CloneDVD Mobile:
--Windows Mobile Smartphone will output to an .avi. I used the 480x360, with the highest video quality.
In Sorenson Squeeze:
--Sorenson Squeeze v4.5 to convert to a .flv (VP6_512K_Stream). If you are going to output to a website, be aware of file size. If you are going to output to cdrom via AMS, then still be aware but more forgiving.
I would be curious of your output quality??

did you mean .mpg and not .avi?
My output window only has an .avi option...I hit the drop down box and .avi is the only option. I checked again and the one I used at the time of the project was version 1.1.2.1. They might of changed the output, but it should still work. You can import into Sorenson as a .mpg.

No matter what I do with the .avi extension, it will not copy the video, only the sound BUT... If after it's done as an .avi I change the extension to .mpg it all looks great! BUT... squeezz will not allow .mpg to be imported. :rolleyes
What version squeeze are you using? I have the new 4.5 and you can import .mpg.
Imports:
* AAC
* AIF/AIFF
* ASF
* AVI
* DV
* MOV
* MP3
* MPEG-1
* MPEG-2
* MPEG-4
* WAV
* *WMA
* *WMV
Exports:
* aacPlus
* AAC
* AIFF
* DV
* DVD
* DVD disk burning--New!
* Sony PSP--New!
* 3GPP--New!
* FLV (Sorenson Spark, and ***On2 VP6)
* HD for MP1, MP2, MP4, and RealMedia
* MOV
* MP3
* MPA
* MPG (MP1 and MP2)
* MP4 AVC (H.264)
* MPV
* ****RM
* SVCD
* SWF
* VCD
* WAV
* WMV
If it still does not work ya might have to convert the working .mpg to a .avi that squeeze will import. I use Super© (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html)

I use Flash DVD Ripper to rip dvd to mpeg or avi. Here (http://www.qweas.com/download/video_dvd/dvd_rippers/flash_dvd_ripper_guide.htm) is the guide and faq of the software. Maybe it can help you!

There's a great utility that can make the whole journey to an editable i-frame QT file right from your DVD source. Pick an in, pick and out, break across chapters or have them automatically generate separate output files. It's called Cinematize by Miraizon. http://www.miraizon.com
I use it all the time for the task. It's the best tool available that I'm aware of. No, I don't have any connection to the company, just really like the software.

Bruce, look for "DVD Decrypter". If you can't find it, I have a copy - it's total freeware. I've used it a few times; works flawlessly. Hope you didn't spend too much more money.

fwiw 'dvd decrypter' is now longer being supported by its creator
(believe was 'forced' by the powers at be to cease and for it
not to be served on sites).
however guess wot.. do a google for: imgburn
made by the same dude, version 2.3.0.0 or later is good.(still free to all)
(includes some blue ray support and same,with more capabilities as the 'original' free tool)
is also 'Vista healthy'
