Holly Cow is right!!! :yes

No wonder lap tops are outselling desk top models ...with great designs like this one.

That is a pretty sweet laptop, the only thing is that it's so large that I imagine it ceases to be very portable. I mean I'd hate to be standing in line at an airport with that thing slung over my shoulder!

However if all you want to do is move the computer around the hose or office easily well then this would be fantastic!

Yeh... cool lap top, but what's the point? It's getting to remind me of the Early Days when it was a portable if it had a handle on it. Geez... I remember my old Columbia portable (kids, that was a computer company when Mom and Dad were first married). It must have weighed in at around 30 pounds. But, by golly, it had a handle on it! It even had any extra hole to store your MS-DOS 1.1 boot disk! (Or, alternatively, your CP/M boot disk...it came with both along with GWBASIC.)

But wait... there's more! It even had any extra hole to store your MS-DOS 1.1 boot disk! Or, alternatively, your CP/M boot disk. It also came with both along with GWBASIC.

I remember caring one around, a couple times, like that Gary. Like this one, if not the same: http://retrothing.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/compaq.jpg

But, the 20" is just so much code-rifically-big screen!

And, carrying that 18lbs, if you have a bag that is supported on two shoulders (backpack'ish), is would be a good workout.

;-)

I'll take two please.

I'm looking at my 21" LCD now and it IS way cool for stuff (hey... you should see the BBC "Life on Mars" on it {what??? you don't watch Life On Mars???}).

~~ however ~~

Way cool as it is, I'd never consider getting a laptop with a 20" LCD. Have folks forgotten the word PORTABLE?? When I'm traveling overseas with a computer I don't want to be hauling 8 kilos of hardware around on my shoulder or back. That's why I went with a nice lightweight Toshiba. Sure, it ain't got the curb appeal of that big 20" baby, but after I make the run from Gatwick to my friend's flat in Hammersmith I don't feel like I've just schelped a ton of stuff over the alps.

So... what's the point??

For me it's from office, home, deck, couch. Not to much hauling, but just enough to be able to easily change the environment to fit my mood.

:yes

I have to agree, it does look really nice! :yes :yes

But, i also agree portable should be just that. A laptop with a 20" screen does seem to be going in the opposite direction.
I'd rather go with a 15" and plug it into an HDTV for home use (prices are towards the favorable :D ).

Another option I'm sure we will see soon to mass market is ... the ability to "unroll" our screens. So, the laptop still could be like it is.. but then a separate "rollup" style, and much bigger" screen would be available for us to use.

One idea to keep the rollup'ed version unrolled would be to have the same type of material used in measuring tapes, but wider a bit, to allow the screen to be rolledup or when expanded it would "popout" and stay put in unrolled state.

The metal would be covered in say a thin layer of rubber (neopreme for better modles), so as to keep cuts down.

Well, that's one idea I see coming around, even if not deployed how I saw it.
