Detecting If Another Copy Of Your Program Is Running

is there anyway to detect if you are already running another copy of the program u have created

ie if i create a program called big1 and i minimised it and forgot it was minimised, so i then try to open it again,

is there anyway of the program checking to see if there is another copy running before it opens itself ???

(to stop duplications if you like)
