View Full Version : Video not shown correctly

Hi,

I have a strange problem since a couple of days: I'm using AMS 6.0.4. I wanted to edit a formerly running project. Now on pages with a mpg movie I don't have a preview any more and the published project does not display the video correctly (video is loaded and paused, no autorun). Normally I had the first frame of the video as a still picture. Now it stays only black. Starting the video works, but if I stop it, it turns black again. With autorun and looped it works as it should except for a single black frame when the loop starts again.

I also have gray artifacts on the upper left corner on each video (see attachment).

I don't think that it is purely an AMS problem, cause the published project runs on my laptop. Only on the tower I get this strange result.

I'm using XPpro SP2, WindowsMediaPlayer 11 and the same codecs on both machines. Reinstalling the videodriver etc. had no effect.

Any ideas?

Thx in advance
Schmidl

Hey schmidl,

Could you be more explicit what u mean?
So published project works on laptop, but not other pc?
Does it show perfectly in preview-mode on laptop and pc?
Did you put in the codecs?
Do u hear any sound ?
Did you use plugin WMP?
This intell is very small, you must explain ur problem more explicit.

P.S.: Bavaria is nice beer :)

Hey schmidl,

Could you be more explicit what u mean?
So published project works on laptop, but not other pc? Right
Does it show perfectly in preview-mode on laptop and pc? Only on laptop
Did you put in the codecs? Yes, on both
Do u hear any sound ? Yes, on both
Did you use plugin WMP? Yes, both
This intell is very small, you must explain ur problem more explicit.

Hi Casper, thanks for the quick reply, I answered the questions via quote.

Hard to explain more detailed. On pc the video stays black until it's started, on the laptop I have the desired still pic.

Seems to be a system issue with video overlay or something like that. But I didn't change anything, two weeks ago it worked on both machines.

Just curious, but do you have XP and Service Pack 2 on both the PC and laptop?
Have you updated to WMP 10 on one and not the other?

On both XPpro SP2 and WMP 11, that's why I wonder :huh

btw: Right now I cleaned the system of any nVidia driver fragments and reinstalled the grafics driver, nothing :rolleyes Disabeling the hardware accelleration also no effect

Since WMP 11 is still beta, maby you got a bad one?

It's not a beta, it's the final (German v. 11.0.5721.5145). I don't use betas on productive systems ;), and AMS works on the laptop.

The grafic is a MSI GeForce 6800 LE with the most recent nvidia driver 93.71. The laptop has an ATI onboard grafic. Someone with Geforce and WMP 11 and AMS 6.0.4? Now I'm quite shure that the error depends on that combination :o.

Hey Schmidl,

No problem for quick reply :yes :).
Probably this will solve your problem:
Install the newest video driver and update your directX.
In most cases in the past what i saw,
was that when you update your graphic card and handler (directX).
With that (most time directX is enough), your OS will make a little snapshot
from the first frame of that video into a thumbnail.db.
When you open a folder in mini preview u see those thumbnails.
2 more questions, what type of videoplayer you use on pc and laptop?
You want to see a snapshot from first frame of video into your mediaplayer or into you folder (to select videofiles)?

Sincerely,
Casper

Thx again :cool

Grafics driver and DirX are the most recent.

The thumbs are created only for AVIs, not for MPGs, but thumbs saving is disabled anyway on both machines.

Videoplayer is PowerDVD on both.

When opening a AMS page with video the video is loaded and paused.

Video.Load("Video1", "AutoPlay\\Videos\\MPEG1.mpg", false, false);
Video.Pause("Video1");

No difference if this is On Preload, or On Show. As mentioned, it works on the laptop and not on the PC, but it did several weeks ago :huh. And it works on the 2nd Windows (Win 64Bit) on the PC.

A tangent thought, not solving, but circumventing the problem.

Why not grab the first frame of your video as a still and have that shown, then when clicking, show your video which will start automatically?

Thanks for the hints.

I solved it, I reinstalled the whole system (should have done it anyway :rolleyes )

Now it works as expected, also with WMP 11. No idea what happened before :huh

Cheers

lol, very drastically sollution !
As i thought and still thinking, it must have something to do with Windows or drivers. Maybe you had different drivers compared to eachother.
For example, maybe your laptop had the WMP codec and your PC had a divx codec, or one of them are outdated?
Did you used google for it?

Kind Regards,
Casper

Yeah, it must have been a driver issue, but I couldn't figure out which one :rolleyes.

I'll have to take a close look, if it happens again, for what reason ever
