Friday SF was working fine. Today I cannot make an installation that does not include 10 or more decompression errors. Failures are Unknown, CRC Mismatch and Read/Write Failures. I have replaced each of the files listed at least once with known working copies (many of the files were testable and worked fine before replacement), turned off our virus checker and ran Avast (sp?), ran a couple of spyware removers (none found). Rebooted the PC a couple of times.

Installations have been ran off CDs or copied directly to a different PC. OS does not seem to make any difference.

SF is on a Win 2000 upgraded to current windows hotfixes. Current version of SF.

Any help in trying to troubleshoot this problem?

Oh, the problem is in the complete installation only. The installation is created without errors.

Does anything show up in the windows Event Viewer?

My top 3 guesses would be:

Drive corruption/Failing hard drive (or maybe bad drivers if you just did an update)
Bad memory (run memtest86)
Failing power supply exhibiting as 1 or 2

If it isn't your system, you might want to check the integrity of your Setup Factory installation. Something could have corrupted the runtime files, in which case an uninstall and reinstall should fix it.

Check the Setup Factory log, too...it might have more close about when/why it's happening.

Currenty working with a support ticket. Just in case anyone can use this info the problem seems to be caused by the current set of Hotfixes. After the installation of the MS hotfixes the compression errors started. Removing the hotfixes the problem went away. Uninstalling and reinstalling SF7 did not help.

The setup built without any errors. Running setup.exe is when the errors were reported.

Has anyone else seen a similar issue when the newest Windows updates?

I cannot replicate this issue.... yet

It looks to be Windows 2000 related.

Adam.

I have not heard anything in a week about my support ticket. Last two emails to Adam about the ticket did not get a reply.
Any help from the community? Due to were we are in the development cycle there is almost no chance of the installation computer getting XP until two months from now. I would hate to be forced to not update this computer for the next eight weeks. Actually, I would hate to be forced to make the computer XP for any reason other then getting a new PC.
