Nice bike, Bruce. I bought a Specialized Hard Rock in 1991 and it still runs like a charm. I leave it out at the cottage. It sits outside 365 days a year. I never tune it up beyond spraying some WD40 on the chain and putting air in the tires. It always runs beautifully. Very happy with Specialized.

I have a Trek here in the city that I use for commuting to work and it is also a great bike. But there is always a special place in my heart for my Specialized bike. That will be a really nice bike to have in California. You should bring it to Manitoba and Darryl can run you through some awesome bush trails in the Whiteshell.

So Bruce...how does it ride?

Bruce

Awesome...I've never ridden a full suspension, for our terrain up here I decided to go with a high-end hardtail to keep the weight and cost down a bit. I've thought of taking a double-boinger out for a ride, but test rides have a way of making you buy stuff, so... :)

You should post some pics of the trails you go on! (I think we're due for another one of your photography posts...)

I would but it seems whenever I bring a camera on the trail I end up leaving it in my backpack most of the time. :D

Although I do have this shot from a recent biking trip with Darryl, where he stood off against his arch nemesis on a logging road on the way to the trail...

:)

Ahh I would love too! Especially of me trying to unlock my feet as I’m rolling down the side of the sticker infested hill HAR! Yes, it happened, no more needs to be said. :rolleyes

Hah!

Last fall I went to visit my parents in the Rockies, and brought my bike along...on one ride in my infinite wisdom I tried to charge through a wall of blackberry bushes. OUCH! I ended up playing Twister for half an hour trying to untangle my way out of there.

Sweet ride Bruce, congrats! May your bum never be sore again :)

And as for the deer picture...there must be something wrong with Lorne's camera, because that deer must have been at least 10 feet tall I tell ya.

Have fun.

My Uncle works for Specialized UK, at the main distribution ctr.
The guys there are serious sport freaks and we used to play various sports every night of the week, then on Saturday we'd take bikes out the warehouse (imagine the choice!) and go on rough terrain for the whole day. I used to be super fit - then i started working nights! :rolleyes
That was the end of that.

Twelve years later i need another bike .. to start again.

Those are pretty cool! Do you do a lot of night riding? I haven't really, although I would imagine it would be pretty neat. Later in the year, it gets darker on the way to and from work, but I wouldn't need lights beyond blinkers for traffic. It would probably be awesome riding some trails with those though.

Let us know how they turn out.

Here's a quick shot of me at the end of a fifteen mile trip. I had seventeen friends along with me! Too much fun!

Lorne

Great shot. :)

Is your seat set really high? You might want to lower it when riding on rough terrain; the extra room over the saddle makes it easier to hop over stuff. (Darryl taught me that one.)

Lorne

Your bike has too many wheels on it, too:

I am 6-4 1/2 so yes the seat is high but, no need to drop it.

What I'd like to know is, what's happening to your old bikes that is making you upgrade them this often? :)

Where are the HDR pics of the crashes! ;)

LMAO! Well... on the old bike, my height caused me to work over the handlebars going over really technical ground which translated into going over the same (handlebars... ouch). :rolleyes The new bike has a higher crank height over the ground and six inches of travel whereas the other one had five, this translates into less over the handlebars issues.
I sold the old bike for $1000.00 to the first person on the first day the ad was out.
HDR pics...hummm lol not going to happen!
