Wireless from garage to house question

The Dot's house is three stories, old, and will be a pain to wire for network. I was thinking of sticking a decent antenna on the back of the garage, pointing at the house, to provide WiFi to the whole thing in one fell swoop. I've got my geek kid doing some research, but, of course, my IR buds come to mind.

Any suggestions for the antenna/router/etc at the garage end of things?

With my NetGear rounter I would just buy an Access Point and place it by a window that points towards to the router itself, to extend the range. If that was even needed. Only way I could tell is if I dragged the laptop out and about to that area.

To me that would be the cheapest, convenient way to get the wireless connection up and going in the garage.

I was able to extend the range of my older WiFi router, with the
Ez-12 Parabolic Reflector Template "the windsurfer"
with just some cardboard and aluminium foil :rolleyes
My son (6 years old) had lots of fun building it (i even didn't do it myselve)

Or one of these -- apparently if done right, and with the right equipment, you can get great range over standard WiFi frequencies.

I bought a 14dBi wireless antenna that can plug directly into most routers these days. My range is now good enough to travel all the way to the next apartment complex (about 300ft through exterior and interior walls too.) This works very well. Depending on the range you need you may not need 14dBi gain. Their prices are fair as well. Check 'em out.
