[begin valley girl persona]So, like, why even go to class, Coray?[/end valley girl persona]

Or (more pragmatically) why pay for tuition?

Just to collect a piece of paper, I suppose. My diploma is the most expensive piece of paper I have ever touched. I fathom it's worth something just short of an original copy of the American Declaration of Independence.

You mean School Inc.? University Corp.? College Ltd.? During my diploma I spent over half my time teaching my instructors stuff, a privelege which only cost me several thousand samolians. If you are asking what value a piece of paper signed by those instructors has to me, well, hehe... I can't air my opinions on this topic here but suffice to say that I have no answer for you little Cindy Lou. [valtalk]Okhay?[//valtalk]

In the future at some point I will no doubt end up hiring a designer at some point in my life. At that time I will base my decision solely upon what they can sit down in my office and do right there in front of me, not what's in their portfolio or resume. It's amazing how many people who claim to be conversant with a given software package turn out not to be so for me the proof is in the pudding. Plus a diploma nowadays tells you nothing about whether this person is a natural designer with a true gift for design or an ex-mechanic who is retraining due to a back injury and struggled through every single aspect of their design training. /ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

I'll post some more links later, every major Univeristy out there has a decent webcast section...
