View Full Version : Is your clock Atomically correct?
In an effort to be sure that all of us AMS'ers will know when the Big Guy will arrive on Saturday evening, I've a present for you.
Here's a simple little plugin that will pull the time from the Atomic Time Servers. You can optionally have it set you system time.
Merry Christmas All!!
--Get the time, and set the system clock
sTime = AtomicClock.GetTime(true);
--Get the time, and DO NOT set the system clock
sTime = AtomicClock.GetTime(false);
Unzip AtomicClock.zip and drop the AtomicClock folder in
C:\Program Files\AutoPlay Media Studio 6.0\Plugins\Actions
You'll now have a new plugin in the Project->Plugins menu named AtomicClock

How do I use this plugin ?
How do I get rid of "Corrected: 0 Days 00:00:00 on 12/27/2005 11:50:57 AM"
with an input of "12/27/2005 11:50:57 AM"
Where does this imput mask get edited?

extracting zip file...i use WinAce 2.6...it's first time when it can't extract a zip file...i'm sure it's corrupted.
I just DL'ed it and extracted it without any issues. Try clearing you cache and DL'ing again.

again error...it extracts the .lid & .lmd files...is this OK?
There should be a .lic and a .lmd file.
Put them in a folder here:
C:\Program Files\AutoPlay Media Studio 6.0\Plugins\Actions\AtomicClock

Worm, how to do I get rid of the "Corrected..." thing? I just want to show only the normal time...
Use one of the built in String.Functions on the returned value.

Don Williams and I are livin' on Tulsa time. Greenwich was too snooty sounding for us.

And in fact the legend goes that people from Greenwich are indeed, very, very mean. Don't believe it though! :D
The timing over here is known as GMT+4:00.
i.e. Four hours after Greenwitch Meantime :yes
(local dubai timing)

Hi Worm,
We've not spoken before, but I'm a great admirer of your work.
I have a question about the AtomicClock plugin. It all works fine, but the string returned varies from PC to PC based on the international options set on that PC.
For example, my English PC with international options set to "English Australia" returns exactly as per the control panel settings...
"Corrected: 0 Days 00:00:-7 on 3/04/2009 10:51:06 PM"
My Japanese PC on the other hand returns;
"Corrected: 0 Days 00:00:41 on 2009/04/03 22:52:27"
So as you can see, it makes it very hard to work out the exact time consistently from the string...
Is there any way I could persuade you to make a slight variation on the output for example to output the julian date to 7 digits and 5 decimals...?
If not, is there any pointers on how to retrieve a consistent internet validated time irrespective of PC settings?
Cheers
Andy
:rolleyes
I can take a look, but I built that off from a class I found on the internet. If I can figure it out, I'll certainly post a new build.

Thank you very much.
For the time being, I'm using a temporary solution of setting the clock for the user (oops) then taking the PC time as-is. Not really nice for the PC, but better than nothing.
I was thinking about date format too. Julian is good, but perhaps people would prefer something like YYYYMMDDHH24MISS or something friendly.
It doesn't really matter what it is I guess as long as it is consistent.
Thanks again
Andy
