Or if you know, great! Regarding the WMV format. Will it play in WMP's as early as version 6.2? In a current project I have, I converted all the video to mpeg1 for max compatability. I'm just wondering if the WMV format will play in the older versions of WMP (less than 9). The reason I ask now is because I have an older version of a video editor and it supports this format and I believe this software was developed pre-WMP9. I tried to download version 6.2 but it doesn't like XP and I don't have a way to test it locally. I like the quality and size of WMV and if it will play in earlier versions, I would like to go with it. Any insights/recommendations? Thanks!

We have all kinds of machines here. Ron open a Support Ticket (http://support.indigorose.com) with a URL to your WMV file and I will let you know if it plays on a bare 98 machine.

Sorry, Ron... I think IR is better qualified to answer that one. I have no experience with Windows Media files prior to version 7.

I may help here.
1. WMP 6.4 is part of XP, albeit hidden. Go to RUN and type mplayer2, you"ll get the 6.4 mediaplayer.

2. wmv will play on win98, as long as the wmv codec is installed (7,8 or 9). Check http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx. This works on Win98SE

Hope that helps

Thanks Yossi. I actualy knew that (a couple of years ago :o), but forgot about that trick.

OK, I launched it for the first time on my system and tried to open a wmv....it auto-downloaded the codec from MS. Now, would this happen with the AMS' Media Player Plug-in as well (if connected to the internet I mean)? Or is ActiveX a totally different scenario? Meanwhile, I'll investigate a codec install. I just don't want a bunch of installs to view the CD, may scare some away.
