My Son has a school project where they are trying to collect dirt from all 50 states. They have a lot of dirt from the mid west and since I travel, I am planning on getting some dirt from NJ and WA when I make it there in the next couple of weeks. However, there is a lot of territory to cover. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help complete their project. Quite frankly as my son told me about the project The first thing I thought of is that there are people on the forums from all over the world. :D

PM me if you are interested in helping, I can provide a mailing address where you can send the dirt. I cannot cover the cost of shipping the dirt but any help is appreciated. If you do help please post the state from which you will be sending dirt. All that is needed is a small baggie, like a sandwhich bag.

Thanks again
Tigg

Tigg... email me with a mailing address. I tried pouring the dirt into the old floppy drive opening so I could send it electronically and it just dribbled out. Just dirt, huh.... I could give a lot of funky rocks :D .

Oh yeh... Minnesota.

You know... that word "dirt" is dead wrong. The teacher should have said, "Send me SOIL from all 50 states." Dirt is what collects in your keyboard, dirt is what's in the Hoover's bag, and dirt is what politicians sling (well, actually that's WET dirt, or as some call it "mud".).

So... assuming "soil" I'll send you some interesting things from Various Places. I'll have to dig in the <gasp> Rock Room for appropriate stuff.

PS... Thanks for the address!

Isn't all dirt an organic mixture? (Gary?)

Adam

Probably but some may be more 'organic' then others.

Rob (AKHacker) lives in Alaska, he's a great guy, he mentioned in a post that he's been so busy that he hasn't been aorund but I bet if you PM/email him he'd be happy to help. :yes

I have a friend leaving for Hawaii tomorrow for 10 days, I can ask him if that won't to bring some back if that won't be too late.

I also have a friend that lives on Maui that would definitley help out if needed.

Let me know.

Thanks everyone. I found out that they will be working with the soil around the holidays here in the states. I agree that Alaska and Hawaii will be the tough ones. I will send Rob a PM and Worm if your friend doesn't mind that would be great, but again as long as it is no trouble.

I have updated the map in the post above. It shows the states where people are helping. Thanks again all.

I spoke with my friend, and he said he'd be more than happy to grab a bag of soil from the island, do you want beach sand or other?

Beggars can't be choosers. Anything will do, what ever he can get the easiest.

Thanks again.

Dang, and I was in FL all last week! Brought back no soil whatsoever. Which is OK because Canada Customs would have done unpleasant things to me if I brought back soil. But for TJ I may have risked it. ;)

I-Man is a FL resident now, so I bet you'll be covered on the FL front.

I can do that. TJ... just IM me your information and I'll get a ziplock up your way, faster than Worm'inator can code a comment line in a .dll!

Yeah, tried to send Rob a PM but looks like his profile does not allow PMs.

Hopefully he will stumble on this thread.

Hey Tigg,

I would like to help but I'm in Okinawa Japan. (U.S. Air Force) Besides, the dirt here is more like coral dust. Whats messed up is we normally get anywhere from 5 to 10 typhoons each year that hit the island but this year nothing. All the bad weather is hitting the gulf coast instead. Okinawa is build to withstand the storms, i really feel for the families in the states.

Good Luck

Chris

Good, I was thinking about you and hoping that all is well. I know a couple of other families that live in that area.

Likewise. Tie something heavy to the dog, we can't have those winds sweeping away our elder statesman. :yes

P.S. I put a banner to your site on my new site I-man (Worm too). It's always up for now but I'm going to start a rotation soon. Anyhow, hopefully it'll bring you some clicks. Also on the new AutoPlay educational site I will add your site to the links page.
