View Full Version : Printing a AM5 project

I have a large AM5 project, which is a combination of interactive and textual (static) pages.
Several of my customers have asked for the ability to print the entire AM5 project without doing screen prints. They realize AM5 is designed for onscreen viewing, but need the ability to study the material when not at the computer.
I could do screen captures of each page (control/print screen), create an html page, and use a web object to print the screens. This does work but looks terrible, since the project is designed for 630 X 425 resolution.
Has anyone else faced such a request, and do you have any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks.

What about building a PDF or HTML file that can be included with the CD that if they want to print the learning material, it would then print the PDF/HTML. Or you could create a function that would go from page to page, get the text from objects and build either a text file or HTML file and then print that file when asked.

Traditional printability in AMS is tricky since projects are typically a blend of so many different media types.
In terms of print quality Tigg's idea will give you the best bang for the buck. You can also print vectors from Flash but that might be too much work to set up. The only other thing I might suggest is serving printable content in a browser object so that they have access to the same familiar print functionality which they have in their web browsers. Honestly though I think Tigg nailed the "most professional" solution. Certainly most users won't complain about printability if you include PDFs... :yes

Thanks guys. It looks like creating a PDF is the way to go. I'm just not sure about the best way to go from AM5 to a PDF.
I could create a WORD document from the static pages (copy and paste each element), and then create a PDF (the manual approach) from the WORD document.
Is there any product or add-on that will take a AM5 page and convert it into a PDF (or into a WORD document)? Some type of export or "save-as" function?
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Hi. No sorry, there's nothing like that just yet. I suppose it's strictly do-able since AMS files are XML but it would be a bit tricky to author. Wish we had a point-and-click solution for you but unfortunately not just yet... :)

Larry,
You could use a capture program like SnagIt to capture AMS windows as images and then save them as PDF. There si a smal app called Image2PDF which can do that if you don't have a fuul featured app like Acrobat.

I'm not sure, but I think the latest version of OmniPage (15) can do this also.
