Blech. Our family's old and ancient dog, Portia (ref. Portia in Shakespeare (http://www.freeessays.cc/db/42/saq236.shtml) , not the car!) has hit the end of her life cycle at 15+ years. Tomorrow she makes the one-way trip to the vet. My stomach hurts.
My older son's biological dad (whom he has very little to do with these days) bought Portia for Pat 15 years ago. When they went on a trip, Portia came over to stay "just for a little while...". She's still here.
So, gang, think good thoughts for us tomorrow afternoon.

Sorry to hear that Gary. We went through the same thing a couple weeks ago. Definitely not easy. It is amazing how much a dog becomes a part of the family.
Yeah sorry to hear about that gbrown, I've gone through that before and I know how hard it can be.

Oh Gary...my heart is breaking for you. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow. It must have been a hard decision.
Sorry to hear of your loss too, Axxess. They really ARE a part of the family.

Back from the vet's. The boys were with me. *sigh* poor old puppy.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts, guys...it helps a lot.
Here's a picture of her with the kitty.

Happy & kind of weird.
Yeh, old Mabel is a pretty good cat, for a beast that weighs around 10kg. She does like to read her comics!

Oh man... Tonight my parents-in-law's dog had a severe heart attack while swimming in their pool and died. My poor kids saw the whole thing, and it really traumatized my daughter. He just started coughing and dropping below the surface of the deep end of the pool. He was a really strong swimmer, but at 13, I guess it was just his time. He died almost instantly, at least. If it wasn't for the panic set on by the fact that he was nearly drowning simultaneously, it wouldn't have been as bad. I think my daughter has finally calmed down enough to consider going to sleep tonight. Geez.

Yipes. Bad day all around. I just got punched by some gigantic psychopath on the subway. For no reason, and to boot I wasn't even looking at him. I was just standing there like normal listening to my iPOD shuffle and then all of a sudden, WHAM, he punched me in my temple as hard as he could, from behind. I wasn't even exactly sure what happened for a second. Apparently he was having delusions or something, he screamed something about hating skateboarders. Ah well, life goes on... :yes
I am such a dog lover. For my 5th birthday I got a Golden Retreiver. When I was 21 we had to take the one way trip to the vet. **** good dog.
Now that I own my own place we (wife and I) have a dog. She is half black lab and half pitt. She is such a lap dog. Everybody who comes over to the house wants to take her home. She is 3 1/2 so we are looking to many more years with her.

I thought you were going to say something about the Shuffle... because folks are getting beatdown for them.
I hope you're doing ok.
BTW, and a little bit OT... I just read in our local paper (for western-central Florida) that we may be getting a skate park of sorts. If it goes through I'm going to take some video of it.

Sounds like it's one of those Fridays we should just file under Bad Day for Everyone. Eric, I can imagine how your daughter felt... how old is she? What was probably really bad for her was the helplessness. Lots of hugs...
Corey... reminds me of when (eons ago) I was in high school going up the steps. I was the classic nerd back then (like I'm not now???) and for some reason one of The Punks decided to punch me. Why? Who knows...
*sigh* look at it this way... we ALL are going to have a lot of GOOD karma coming our way fairly soon. The Great Wheel tends to even things out.

I'm fine. I've got a world class chin. It didn't even phase me. Considering how huge he was, his punch was a joke, but he had one of those cheap-fake high school rings on which is never fun in the orbital bone. The main thing is that I hate fighting and it just bugs me how easy it is for other people to ignore that and just pull me into their stupid world regardless. :o
The Calgary subways are more violent than Edmonton. I see a fight about every 4th time I ride one.
The truth is that it would have been super easy to finish him off if I felt in any real danger. I trained in BJJ for years, this guy was definitely not prepared for anything like that. He was wide open. But I hate fighting unless totally neccesary. Plus this guy looked diseased so I wasn't enthusiatic about getting down and rolling around with him just for the sake of it. :)
Live and learn. :)

This to me is a comment that creates a big turnoff for me (and many others) that appreciate "the arts" as a whole:
"IF YOU WANT TO GET YOUR FACE BEATEN AND WELL SMASHED, YOUR ____ KICKED, AND YOUR ARMS BROKEN, CONTACT CARLOS GRACIE AT THIS ADDRESS . . . "

No not me, but I have spent hundreds of hours on the mat with a wide variety of people. Not anymore though, I have no interest in BJJ now, skateboarding is everything these days. I agree with you though. People who talk like that get no dinner invitations from me. :)

 And the fun continues... I was just driving some stuff over to my ex's house and the right front wheel more-or-less fell off as I slowed down for a stop sign. Probably the ball joint. At least it didn't happen:
driving a full load of junk over to the dump
in the MIDDLE of the intersection
driving back at 60 MPH from Chicago two weeks ago.
*sigh* I was just a couple of blocks from my ex's house, so my son was able to drive me back home. Waiting for the AAA tow truck...

Yikes, glad you're OK! :wow
Well I hope you at least didn't get smirked at by your ex, that would be the worst. :)
