I like www.rottentomatoes.com for movie reviews...gives you a better sense than reading one or two specific viewpoints. Although there have been many movies that were given a low score that I liked, or that were given a high score that I didn't like...but in general by translating a lot of different reviews into an overall score it gives you a decent idea.

But it's impossible to assess something by averaging the wrong in with the right? I say it's better to just ignore the "funniest movie of the year" contingency right off the hop. :)

As for the rotten tomatoes link, that's the "worst writing of the year":
There are people who crash parties, but weddings? In Wedding Crashers, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn show how much fun this can be.
It completely blows my mind that anyone would place value on that paragraph. It's surreal. :o

If I really want to see a movie, I'll avoid reviews as much as possible so that my viewing pleasure isn't distorted (or 'spoiled' for that matter). Then I'll go and read as many reviews as possible after I've seen it. When it comes down to it, you have to make your own decision.

I'm not fond of reviews at all. I'm a pretty loose movie critic, as I can often find good in even the worst movie. But I find that the movies I enjoy the most are those which I don't know anything about. That's the best way to watch!

When I was a kid, critical thinking was mainstream, guys like Ralph Nader and Phil Donahue were icons. But somehow we have been reprogrammed since. To the extent now that it is often seen as more "wrong" to criticize a liar than it is to lie. :)

I saw the trailer for Wedding Crashers. The acting is one dimensional and cheesy, the plot is pathetic, and the dialog is quite poorly written. If that's the trailer, then I can't imagine the film being any good. Who relates to these characters? Who relates to this story?

"The Party" with Peter Sellers rocks. Great actor, amusing plot, and skillful execution. Birdy num-nums. howdy partner, and the opening "death" scene are all true classics. Plus it has a story and characters people can actually relate to in some way. :yes :yes :yes :yes :yes :yes :yes :yes :yes

With reviews, there is no wrong or right. Just different viewpoints. In which case, the more the merrier. :)

Although I generally use it to see whether a movie is worth watching...I like the fact that it pulls out little snippets from various critics so I don't get too many spoilers. Since all the quotes are attributed, it's easy to put more weight on critics who I have historically been likely to agree with, vs. others whom I almost always disagree with.

The Party is just amazing...Peter Sellers was a great actor.

BTW, have you seen Million Dollar Baby? We just rented it the other night and I'm glad I didn't read any spoilers before hand. I'm a big fan of Eastwood's movies and he, Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman deserved every ounce of their oscars in this movie. A very "real" film.

With reviews, there is no wrong or right.
To be clear my opinion is that this person doesn't believe this is the funniest movie of the year, they're just saying that because it pays the rent. Come 2006 I doubt anyone will believe this was the funniest movie of 2005... :o

As to the issue of choice, that might be something if it weren't only the same 4-5 companies shovelling the same sawdust down the same chute each year. "McDonalds or Wendys" is not freedom of choice. :)

Besides, if it's naa Scottish, it's CRRRAP! :yes

I don’t have any idea if the movie will be any good or not, but I salute the premise. I’m in complete agreement with Owen Wilson, when he said that at weddings, the women seem more agreeable, then usual.

As he goes on to say, just being at the wedding party, pretty much elevates you to pre-vetted status.

Crashing wedding parties, must be at least as much fun as crashing StarTrek conventions.

Well I'll give you one thing, my desire to crash somebody's wedding day is definitely equivalent to my desire to hang out at a Star Trek convention. :) :yes

Although crashing a wedding is obnoxious whereas attending a convention isn't, so if anything, Trekkies have the edge. Seems kind of unfair to lump those innocents in with anything as odious as this flick. :)
