With those kinds of distances, this will be regulated by the FCC in this country, without a doubt. So, it looks like those companies who are fastest to the eventual application process will be those that reap the profits. Looks very interesting, actually.

Think about how much more cheaply WANs can be built with this technology! No more miles of fiber, amplifiers, head-end facilities, racks and racks of network equipment. Nope, just a few base stations and maybe a small warehouse for equipment your customers will need. Looks like a good business plan if the technology pans out.

From what I've heard so far normal radio regulation rules don't apply because the signa, "isn't competing with existing signals". Not sure about that though. I have zero doubt that the FCC will ruin it eventually and/or make sure it's only viable for a handful of the largest broadcasters. :)

Right - I figure that although xMax doesn't interfere with existing radio signals, it will probably interfere with other competing xMax signals. Hence the eventual need for government intervention.
