View Full Version : Observation on installation speed
Hi.
I noticed that if I use the segmented progress bar type for the progress bar screens over the smooth progress bars that my installation goes much faster.
I'm sure it has to do with the number of display updates that happen when using the smooth progress bar type.
I'm guessing that this would also affect the uninstall speed, but shouldn't affect the download speed when used in TU2.
Just a note to anyone who might wonder why their installation is slower than normal.
Thanks.
Thanks for the thoughts Tek. A smoothe progress bar could in fact make the install progress slower, depending on the system hardware as well.

In the project I'm now working with, I have selcted the smooth progress bar type; just to be "different". I shall now go back to the segmented type.
Tek, thanks for telling us.
No problem.
As for some comparison numbers, I have an installation that is about 16mb and using the segmented progress bars gave me a 20-25% decrease in installation time from the point where the 'While Installing' screen is first displayed to when the next screen after it is displayed. This percentage might change depending on your installation size.

I forgot to change the progress bar from "smooth" to "segmented". I could not notice any delay, but my package is less than 16 MB (5,4 MB – 68 items).
I just want it to be clear:
You don't have to "avoid" the smooth progress bar. As Tek said, the result might be different if your package is huge (and of course; the time is hardware dependent).
There are many factors that can come into play when it comes to the speed of a Setup Factory 7.0 created project. Our setups have always been known for their speed and reliability.

My package was about 16mb as well and I tested it on the same workstation both times. The difference was not huge but still noticeable.
I'll stick with using the segmented progress bars since I like how they look anyways. :yes
