The golden ratio is the Fibonacci Sequence. The link above does a good basic job of telling you what it is.

"digital voodoo" :D :D

I always thought the golden ratio was a ratio, not a number. Sometimes also referred to as "the divine ratio" it is 1 to 1.618. And it's the ratio behind almost everything in the universe on some level including the your facial features, the length of your finger/toe segments, waves in stream, cloud formations, and much more. The golden ratio is very important in art and painting. :yes

Some of the points here (http://kwc.org/blog/archives/2004/2004-03-09.book_the_golden_ratio.html) contradict some of the points on that link page. No way to know for sure who knew what, but one thing is clear, the golden ratio has played a profoundly important, yet often unheralded, role in many areas of the development of our universe, and indeed us humans. :yes

I always thought the golden ratio was a ratio, not a number. [snip]

Speaking as an absolute mathematics non-expert, whose life when it comes to that subject has been punctuated by a series of "Aaah now I get it" moments which invariably came much too late to be useful :) -

Doesn't a ratio resolve to a number?

No doubt. I just always thought of a ratio as a relationship between two numbers as opposed to a number per se. I am no math expert by any stretch. :yes

It is quite facinating to understand the whole theory behind the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Sequence. I made a little flash app that calculates the numbers:

http://www.ericvision.com/ams5/fibonacciSequenceCalc.html

You can see that the actionscript is not complicated at all. The app starts to choke at about 300.

I have my own theory called the "Tin Ratio", it is the number of people who sing karaoke out of tune compared with the number of people who realize they're singing karaoke out of tune. :yes

Oh man I would hate to see the formula for that one Corey. :D
