Here's a new one from the folks over at NASA:

Wold Wind (http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/)

I can even spot my house on this puppy!

Some warnings:
1) It is Windows only
2) It is a BIG download- 175 MB
3) It needs a big pipe to feed it, at least DSL or Cable Modem. Forget about dialup
4) It needs a fairly fast computer with a good video card.

Enjoy!

Ooops... that's WORLD Wind not WOLD wind. :D

Guess I was just too tired from ALMOST finishing up the wiring up in the attic. All I've got left is a booster fan on a vent duct....but that's got to wait for a hunk of pipe. Back to Sprited Away!

(Oh cool... I'm at the scene with the coal thingies...same things that are in my animated GIF! :lol :lol )

Neat! Thanks Gary!

I'm'a downloading now. That's pretty hip that the folks at NASA there are up on the Bittorent scene (can download via such way)!

*Puts NASA sports cap on, as a way of showing support!*

Gary, I just installed this application and I got kick out of what it stated in the status bar:

"Initializing Earth"

Ha!

This application has a lot of excellent bits of information!

The best is Place Finder! Whoaaa! Very swanktific!

What is way cool is the way you can "grab" the edge of the earth and rotate it to where you want. Then, using the thumb-wheel on the mouse, you can zoom in on your Target Of Interest.

After having the chance to use this program for a little while... I must say that it is one of the greatest freeware programs I have ever seen!

How interesting to be able to zoom around at will and find landmarks, roads, and yes, even your home!

I noticed that these images must be a few years old... but still very cool...

Ya, I noticed that. I have the Lat/Long. grid up also. I like how it draws the map in real-time via the Net! Now, can get down to license plate view? Ha! Jussst kidd'in. I know it's a N.S. thing. But, what a great security cam for the home, car, office that would be! (of course privacy issue big time too though!)
