My very first video production ever : "Cat meets summer"

Nice looking vid Corey, you gotta love cats.

The phrase that kept going through my head whilst I was watching your video was "like herding cats." Especially that one cut right at the beginning, where Boo Boo walks off the deck, cut, then you are at the side of the lawn with the cat walking towards you. How did you ever convince Boo Boo to do that?

You know cats. You can't get them to do *anything*. In this case I just shot a bunch of random footage and then tried to patch it together with a little continuity. The main goal on this project was just to learn how the camera works, how to capture the DV to my comp, edit the audio/video, and print it back to mini DV tape for archiving. Pretty easy I'm happy to report, very easy in fact. This is going to rock! :yes

No snow left. Yaya! :eek:

As for the skinniness, yeah he's just naturally big, not an ounce of fat. Stretched out, Boo Boo is around 38" long or so. Just a great cat, never had an ounce of hassle with him. Somehow Boo Boo just instinctually knew what to do and what not to do since day 1. He has been an full indoor/outdoor cat since day one, so he's also extremely street wise.

The best thing about Boo Boo is that he refuses to use litter. Always has, even as a tiny kitty he preferred to go outside, even in -35 Celcius. So he's pretty much zero maintenance. :yes

Boo Boo also likes hanging out with Rabbits. Where we lived in Edmonton he used to go down to the corner every day around 5AM and just sit there with this one Rabbit watching the University kids head off to school. They never hassled each other or tried to push the relationship, just sat there. That was his morning ritual for months. :)

That's one of the true mysteries of our time. Boo Boo is a man of great secrecy.

As a kitty (up to 6 weeks when I got him) Boo Boo was raised in a yard with a couple big Rottweilers, so I think he had to develop a strong knack for transparency from day one. That's the thing about cats who are born and raised outdoors, they develop an acute sense of environmental awareness.

Fortunately the neighbors all seem to enjoy his presence so I'm left to assume he hasn't been sullying their rose gardens, or at least not in any overt manner... :)

I've been keeping my eye open for the rabbits this week but I think it might be too late, they mainly only come around here in late winter to eat the fallen autumn crabapples which linger under the snow on our lawn. Once summer hits you still see them around but not for more than about a second. The kind of rabbits we have here are super nervous and can cover a city block in about ten steps, i.e. about 3 seconds. :)

I'm definitely on the lookout for them though, sooner or later I'll catch some footage of Boo Boo and the rabbits hanging out on the lawn. :)

Saw a rabbit last night. Tried to videotape it, but this camera is no good for night shooting, alas. This one was huge too, i.e. about 10-15 pounds. He was eating in the bushes outside the window for a while, spotted me but didn't seem to mind, then suddenly a car came down the street and he/she was gone like a little flash of white light. Man those things can move, this one was over a block away in a matter of seconds. :wow

Hey Corey - just got around to watching the Boo Boo short. The shot of him backlit by the sun was pretty magical. There was a slight lens flare in the shot, which is a shame because without that, it would have been perfect. You're on the way!

There was a huge flock of Canada geese flying overhead, kept him still for a minute. That's what he's looking up at. :)

I'm heading down to get that 650W Fresnel tomorrow, or maybe a soft light, depending on what's in stock. :yes
