Apparently, I posted on VoodooFiles some time ago about registering AdvTweak.dll - i guess to get the 3Dfx tools to work with XP [? .. really cant remember]

Anyway, I just got an email from some guy asking me about this. He was having a problem with it and wanted my help. He signed the email:

Billy
A+ MCP

So i told him he has to reg the dll file with windows using regsvr32 and finishing by asking him what A+ MCP was [prompting him to reply again]
Sure enough he did, saying it wont register etc .. whats wrong with it?
- and "A+ MCP are my computer certifications"

He hadnt put the address in quotes. So i point this out and say "how come you dont know this and you have MCP"

He replies: "Guess I didn't learn the quote thing when I studied for my cert.'s"

So - i guess they are a waste of time. Makes me laugh how so many people think its the bees-knees having such qualifications and yet they know diddly-squat!

The certifications (to many anyway) are just icing on the cake. They do show to a prospective client/employer that you are willing to put your time (or your past employer's) monies to good use in that you are willing to put your money where your mouth is.

I personally would hire a person mostly on what they can show me and not because they have the certifications.

Certification-smarts-only does not make an overall expert, in my humble opinion.

But, it is either a good start, or a continuation of one's progression along any given path of knowledge, especially in the realm of computer systems in general.

Incidently, I have read a couple of books by Michael Meyers - (A+ Certification) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0072222743/qid%3D1109473498/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/104-6688404-7242356) and do recommend them! (the link here leads to the larger of the two (2) books)

Ohhhhhhh thaaaaat Mike Meyers, the one from Austin Powers. OK well that makes much more sense, because it's hard to proofread with a hockey mask on. Thanks for clearing that up. Party on Garth. :yes
