Help with GUID numbers. - When an install is built by SUF and installed by the user, a GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) is registered to identify the program and is used by windows ADD/REMOVE. For about a year now I have built different versions of the same program for my company and have noticed that sometimes the GUID does not change and sometimes it does. I say this because I must have installed the same software (differnet builds) on my computer 100s of times but when going into Add/Remove in windows I see only about 10 listings for the program. I have never hit the create new GUID button and really want it to over write the old settings every time. Is there a way to lock the number so it does not change? Is SUF set to change the numbers based on software name, version number, exactly what? If I cannot lock it down then what would be the best way to clean up before installing another version. Can I have the new install check for another version and delete it or use the existing number. What is the best way to handle this short of making the user uninstall the old version first (not needed – we do not use reg writes and always use the same folder names, ect..).
