View Full Version : Flash movie - low playback quality

Hi,
I have a problem with flash objects.
I have a flash movie which calls (loads) another movie inside itself. The loaded (second) movie shows a sequence of stills with dissolves and pans + a background sound music. That second flash movie is 250K.
The playback of the flash movies, both the sequence one AND the parent one is smooth while running them standalone.
BUT, when loaded in AMS as flash object, the second (sequence) flash movie stutters. Although its sound is smooth, the visuals are BAD!!!
And that is while playing from hard disk. I am dreading what will happen when running from a CD.
Anyone with an idea?
Thanks
Yossi

Sometimes I see this occur when using Flash Projector (don't know why - when using images, etc...), but when I put the same movie(s) in a web page, whatever stuttering or pixelation anomalies that occured went away. Are you using web objects for these? Or just plain Flash Object? IOW, if it will fit your design, try the same flash movies in a web object and see if there's a difference.

Thanks Ron, but design wise, I can't use a web object for that.
I am open to suggestions...
Thanks

Hmm, I can make a web object with flash look exactly like a flash object by itself. But, that's neither here nor there. Tis your project ;)
Yosik, if you'd like, send me the said files and I'll take a look at them. There's a lot of variables (framerate, size, ActionScript being used, etc...) that could affect what you speak of - I'm sure you're well aware. But, maybe a second set of eyes could shed light on a/the problem. I'll be happy to do it for you. Send me both fla's and I'll look at everything and test on my system as well.
I understand your frustration when something "should" work flawlessly and *burp* - something strange occurs.
Just a major shot in the dark - what about the advanced memory management in AMS? Never used it myself, but I wonder if it would relate to this very situation.
You may also want to "play with" the quality settings in the properties of the FO. I have found that the quality only affects text, not images. Don't know whether you have text involved or not.
HTH a bit.

Ron,
Thanks for your offer. As it is oart of a fairly large project, I have to separate these two and build a dummy page similar to the "real" project. I"ll get to do it tomorrow.
As to the quality setting, I do have text involved, so I have to work with high quality.
I really don't know about memory management. But as that works with loaded pages, I am not sure it has anything to do with flash playback performance.
Frustrating like H... you can say that again!
Thing is that if I use the sequence flash movie by itself, it plays smoothly. It is only when it is part of a higher hierarchy movie which loads it into a movieclip placeholder that the playback degrades... and this only inside AMS, not if it runs as a flash player stand alone movie....Go figure!!
