Well here's one I tried. It's not bad, fully self contained, you don't need any other software and it's free but remember you get what you pay for.
HelpMaker - http://www.vizacc.com
Personaly I use Help & Manual (US4299)

Here's another one I am checking out that is free:
http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/shelpm/
It's in beta but it has received several awards (so the Website boasts).
You have to download the two .zips and then combine to one directory (must be to make easy nightly-builds (or however often such happen) easier to share, until the app. goes gold.

Shalom only creates winhelp files and not chm files. Here is another one I have used in the past. Not bad but it's not free.

Thanks for the heads up Dermot and the extra link. This is my first foray into .chm creation.

(snip)HelpMaker - http://www.vizacc.com(snip)
This is good enough for my needs Dermot. Just finishing off a project at work and I was going to create some help pages inside my project but this way looks much more 'professional'.
An added bonus is the screen grabber that comes with it that includes the pointer in the screen shot. A really good 'freebie' :yes

Yep! HelpMaker is pretty impressive for a freebie. Would certainly serve most peoples needs.
